hedman header opinions

i was going to get slp then i found out about the denting crap, then i was gona get hooker but then i relized how much they will be with jet hot and heard about some clearance issues so now i'm goin for hedman headers and our custom exhaust shop says to get them and they already can come with ceramic coating and cost less then hooker with jet hot. so how r they and has anyone had any problems with them?

i just finished putting them in and finishing my exhaust. i think they are pretty nice. fitting them into a 92 305 tbi wasnt to bad, and they seem to look and run nice. i have the elites, i recommend them.

The headers themselves are $259 from www.Jegs.com. They dont have a Ypipe for them...but it is rumored that the standard Hedman Ypipe($99) will fit......at least thats what Ive heard. And yes they already come with some sort of coating......good luck

That I dont know...it says they have a "thermal" coating......but you might want to email somebody at Hedman to find out exactly what kind of coating it is....I do know the headers are made out of 14gauge metal...unlike most that are 16 gauge.....

its a kinda ceramic coating, from what it seems to me it looks like it will last. as for the headers them selves, they seem like a kinda "heavy duty" kinda durable type headers.

anyone with the elite headers wana say what they did with the y pipe? I also heard and have read that the y pipe will fit because the elite header was just a coated version of the header that is designed for the y pipe. I need to contact hedman. maybe ill call them up today. I got time. Ill report back with my answer.

i had a custom y pipe made and installed. ill cost you just about the same as what hedman will charge for their y pipe, and it wont be a pain in the A$$ to install.

If the hedman Y-pipe is still just a 2.5 inch outlet you may want to reconsider.

I bought the hedman headers that come with the y pipe for $328.98 from jegs and im very pleased with the performance gain i got and it is a BIG gain i got .I love it so much the y pipe is 2.5 inches but you can just cut it off and have a shop weld in a 3 inch pipe not hard at all and anyways you'll only gain like 3 hp from a 3inch y pipe that goes to the converter.

On a lo3 or small cam Lb9 you might only see 3 hp difference but when you start making more and more power the difference will start getting bigger and bigger.

I have the Hedman "camaro" headers...part 68491 for dual cat cars....My "header" pipes that run from the header collector to the slip insert on the Cat are 2.75" dia(inside). I measured it last nite...and they are mandrel bent. Im getting ready to put a blown 377ci in the car, so Im hoping they will flow enough.....

ok.. is the hedman y pipe bigger, smaller, or same size as stock? I had a 3inch ID cat slip right over the top of my y pipe, so i would say that the y pipe is abotu 2 3/4's od, and 2 1/2 ID. Could one reuse the stock y pipe?

Im not sure about the single cat's Ypipe...but I know on my dual cat the pipe(s) were only 2.25" in dia I got to measuring though...and the Catco dual setup I bought from summitracing, the cats only have an inside dia of 2.25 So Ill probably need to get that replaced before the other motor goes in.... How much space did you have between the ID of your cat and the OD of the Ypipe?? The pipe itself is only .06" in thickness....so if it slide over it and there was a pretty tight clearance...Id say its 2.75" Hope that helps.....

I did'nt know hedman made a dual cat Y-pipe, that sounds like the way to go. The hedman single cat Y-pipe has a 2.5 inch outlet. The factory T-pipe has a 2.75 inch outlet on all 85-89 tpi cars and will not work with hedman headers.

I didnt know either till I emailed Jethot on prices for dualcat headers...and he said they had Hedmans, part 68491....Jeg's doesnt have them, neither does Summit. But they are on Hedmans website. Ill try to get a pic of them to let everybody see....The pipes are straight right before they get to the converter...so even on a single cat car, you could make dual exhaust really easy.....
