Headers are in!!

Well my Hooker SuperComp 2055s are finally on my engine. I had them Jet-Hot coated, as you can see. I am REAL happy with the outcome. Even though I paid my favorite mechanic to do the labor, he got it done in 2 days. It would have took me weeks. I just don't have all the right tools.

The plug wire holders work real well. I would strongly reccomend them for any motor with centerbolt valve covers. I just got to change 3 plug boots to 90deg, or maybe just get a whole new set of wires. My Jacobs wires a bit dirty.

The car does sound a little "meaner" but not unbearable like some cars. I think I have a little more pickup acceleration. I need to get some scan data, and ultimately get to the track.

What kind of improvement should I see?

Your headers look pretty, I wish I got mine coated so they don't look like crap. Your engine compartment is super clean. One question its not really related but I have been wondering what is that box in the second pic with the black cover and the clear bottom with the FY sticker on it. I see it in my engine compartment and don't know what it is.

The clear box with the black top is the container that holds the brake fluid.

You can get them with or without. They look good, I wish I would have gotten mine Jet-Hot coated rather than going with the Hooker coating, not even a year later all the coating has come off the collectors and it's rusting...

Since when???? I contacted hooker myself about ordering a set without air tubes and they flat out told me it was not possible.

EDIT: Are you sure you have the 2055's and not the 2460's?

My 2055's did come with the air tubes. That is the only way you can buy them. I cut them off and welded the holes closed, then smoothed down the welds. Then I sent them on to Jet-Hot.

Sure, I could have saved some $$ by just buying them from Jet-Hot allready coated, but I really wanted to get rid of the tubes, and if I did the work after the coating, then I lose my warranty.

So far no sniffer testing where I live, and I hope it never comes to that. There are many emissions related items missing from my car, but since I do my own chips, it prolly burns better now!

Headers were $360 c/o Summit. Jet Hot coating cost $309 plus shipping. I had them do my Ypipe as well.

Thanks for the kudos!

How much did it cost you for the labor?

My mechanic charged me $450 for labor, including all welding and some parts needed. He said that if he charged me full price for all the time he put into it, would have been much higher!!

I also spent 44 on the locking bolts, 22 on a new O2 sensor, and 44 for the plug wire holders. It was not a cheap investment.

Yesterday I got chance to take'r out for for some heavy throttle action. It seems to pull more, and rev's out quicker and higher. I went close to 6000 on my tach in 1st gear! I have the rev limiter set in the chip at 5750, so maybe I should raise that a little?? Not sure if that is good for the valvetrain going that high in rpm, since my heads are still stock.

What kind of wire holders are those? Would they fit my MSD 8.5's?

You're supposed to paint them! The black coating that comes on them is to prevent them from rusting, while they are sitting on a shelf in some warehouse for who knows how long. You can scrape that stuff off with your fingernail. I spray painted mine with a high temp paint and baked them in an oven. So far, they are holding up great - no rust.

I noticed the "Easy to install" headers that are advertised are much more work than the company likes to admit too.. When I did my edelbrocks I was pissed off that I didn't just buy them and put them on when I engine swapped becaue it would have been easier...

No I'm talking about Hooker's ceramic coating. It's junk, if I would have know I would have got them bare, sandblasted them and sprayed them with some black satin. And to think I paid $150 for that! As much as the headers cost!

The wire holders are MadeForYou wire looms for centerbolt valve covers. They make a variety of wire holders. Check their website or look them up at Summit.

The package said they were for 8mm wire, but I have Jacobs' 8.5mm wires, and they fit ok. Maybe a little snug, but at least they ain't moving!

The wire looms look great but they are a little too close to the valve cover... no?

I have the 2055, with jet hot coating. If you send headers to Jet-Hot, let them know you heard about them at third-gen. They will knock some money off. I think mine came to $258.00. That included the Y pipe.

Mine cost me $450 for the install. that inculded the Cat back and new cat.

Very pleased with the whole set-up.

With the stock TPI revving it over 6k is useless, it really won't make power over 5500 & you are causing extra wear on your engine.

Does that work if you buy the headers from Jet-Hot already coated?

Well I didn't get any discount from JetHot that I know of. I thought I was getting the standard price. Paid 279.50 for coating of headers and Ypipe, but they charged me 29.00 shipping. Plus I had to pay 18 just to ship them to JetHot from my house.

But you do get a little discount if you buy the headers directly from JetHot allready coated. But you get no hardware or gaskets that way.

The wire looms aren't too close to the valve covers. Just the way they look in the pictures, maybe like 1/4" away. I can still get the oil filler cap off no problem.

Yea, kind of figured reving the motor towards 6grand is not a good idea. Just seems like it gets up there much easier than w/manifolds. Today I punched it after I turned at redlight, going up a slight grade, it kicked down to 2nd and went up to 5500 easily before it shifted. I have had the tranny re-worked, supposedly shifting at 5500 1-2 and 2-3. But I have gone higher recently.

Then you gotta get the install kit, the cat adapter, and to top it off only the headers are coated, not the y pipe. Then when you go to put all that waste of money on it doesn't even fit. I like the Hookers, lol.

skrew the kit, i have a uni-high flow cat, and the y pipe i belive is coated if you order it so. Im not 100% on that. But they still are stainless! But yea... i dont think i could put in any more SLP parts in my car.

Personally I don't think SLP will last much longer. I don't think there is one single part they make that is the best in any category. BTW, the y pipe is not coated, but you are right, they are stainless.

Looks great Mike. Congrats on the install.

I noticed a little more on the top end with my SLP 1 3/4. Don't have any back to back tests to back that up... sotp.

lol, thats funny actually. Since GM no longer makes the f body, and probably since most people who have one know about their crappy customer service and horrible quality they just couldn't make it on the few people that don't know about them yet. So now they are out to rip off unsuspecting mustang owners instead of us f body owners. Oh well, doesn't hurt me one bit. SLP SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHen I got my SLP runners I almost **** over the quality.. I was like "guys, you accidentally send me a prototype from 85?"

Infact I ws like "why arnt the ports well. rouund?" they're like "Our engineers found those groves cut down on turbulance" I was like "hah right.. enjoy my 275.00"..

The customer service blew when I bought the locker, but fawk it for 99.00 I couldn't bitch.

tpi_roc keeps telling me to get the slp 1 3/4 headers, but I dunno. I think for a low 12, high 11 second supercharged car 1 5/8 hookers should do.

Man, please listen to all the guys who have been ripped off by SLP and then basically **** on with their customer service. If you wanna gamble with them, go ahead, but if it was my hard earned money, I damned sure wouldn't buy anything from that piece of crap company. Not only do third gens have problems with them, but the 4th gens do too. Their headers suck, their lids suck, everything sucks except maybe their MAF, which guess what? If you peel the SLP sticker back it says delphi right under it, lol. SLP is nothing but a rip off that GM should never have contracted out in the first place. It was a big mistake. I hope other people learn from all of the bad things that have happened to board members, not only here, but elsewhere.

Those 2055's look nice but i'm not cutting the tubes off and sending 'em out to jet-hot.

I might buy some 2460's and have a custom y-pipe made.

sounds like a plan, but it would prolly be easier to just cut and weld the air tubes.

What about hooker 2052's and cut the y-pipe and replace the 2.5 section to the kitty with a 3" section??

The 2052 header itself flows just as much as the 2055, and it IS 16 gauge right?

2052's?? I never heard of them? Pics?

Ok.. I wana see how much the cost difference would be if you got teh 2055's coated from jet hot and cut the tubes off, then it would be to get the 2460's coated and fabbing a y pipe up for it.

Kind of funny how nobody asked about the black cable or wire that is running across the top of my left header and valve cover. Surely that is not a stock item!!??

I'm so glad I didnt have to answer the first question about the box with a black cover and clear plastic bottom.

PS: I am planning heading to the track this sunday, to get some new times with these shiny new headers. I am hoping for a solid 2tenths improvement, but I will take more!

2460's coated cost me $261.00 including shipping.

Quote to do a mandral bent y-pipe (3") was 100-120.00 locally, and I'm still searching..
