my exhaust is not loud
i have an 86 z 28. i just put a brand new motor in, with tons of goodies.
forged crank, rods, pistons
350 .040 over = 356
10.8:1 total compression
port polished aluminum heads off a 90 vette.
edelbrock rpm manifold with a rochester quadra jet atop
crane cams 502 512 lift 284 duration
for exhaust:
headman headers 1 5/8 primaries 3 in collector
3in down pipe(headman) catco high flow cat (3in)
3in dynomax catback exhaust. with 2.5in tails
my problem is the exhaust is not loud... not like a flowmaster sound. is there anything i can do to make it alittle louder. it does have a nice mellow and authoritative sound but just not loud.

get a cutout, they rock on 350 and larger engines! (never heard one on a 305 yet).
At full throttle, mine sounds like a nascar, at 1/2 throttle, it has a real throaty sound, and at idle, it sounds the same only louder. Thats with edelbrock headers, mystery heads, and dual cats.
it's not really loud at idle, probably because I left the cats on. But as soon as I get past about 1/4 throttle, it gets real loud real quick
Trust me, with headers and cutouts (or just one), you'll get some looks! People all the time ask me what engine I got, and "I bet thats fast!". all the shops I go to, the guy who pulls the car in the stall always revs the engine with a big grin on their face
it's totaly fun
On stock engines (with stock headers), it just usualy sounds loud and raspy. but with headers, heads, (and your cam) it should sound pretty wicked

I didn't do the install it myself because I don't have a welder (or know how to use one). Basicly, you just weld up the cutout pipe into the section of exhaust you want, bolt on the electric cutout mechanism to the end of the cutout pipe, then run the wire up into the car (through a hole in the floorboards above the tranny, I think). Then run a line to a wire from the battery.
Thats is, I believe. But like I said, I didn't install it because I don't have a welder.
I should have gotten just the $30 cutout pipe, and not spend the $100 or so on the electric mechanism... I havn't closed it in like 3 months. I'm sure I'll want to close it sometime... like if I ever get a girl friend
