whats the quietest performance exhaust??

heres the deal.. i have a vert... i want the best of both worlds..

a very free flowing loud exhaust when im having fun, and a quiet ride when the girl is in the car...

my solution is half solved... im going to use a elec cutout for the loud/power part..

now i just need a quiet rumble that wont choke the new engine..

the new engine is a hot (for the street) 406... longtubes going to a y pipe (with a cutout)... the y pipe will lead into a regular catback in the tranny tunnel...

what is a nice quiet exhaust that doesnt drone when im going down the hwy?

I've got no answers, but i've got the same question...women hate the exhaust, guys love the exhaust (mine has a 40 series flowmaster right now, which i'd love to get rid of.

What do they use on buicks and cadillacs? northstars put out some decent power and they're quiet as hell, do they make a 3" version of those?

is it just how it bolts to the cat, or does it have a diff muffler/design?

Go to www.dynomax.com and look at the .pdf files. They'll give you the CFM flow, the "loss free" HP rating for one muffler, and the HP rating of running two mufflers.

Looks like this....

385
175/350

The 900 is CFM.

The 175 is "loss free" HP w/ one muffler.

350 is HP w/ two mufflers.

There's a couple of sound clips of mine in my sig. You have to be a member of Yahoo to hear them.

Ya know what. That's irrelevant unless you know what muffler(s) the kit comes with.

Contact Summit and find out.

I found them for you.

They all come with #17739 Super Turbo

385 CFM
175 HP single /350 HP dual

The first one is the one made for your car. It's the same one I have.

If you want to pay the little extra money, you can get the Ultra Flow Stainless Steel kit (the muffler's S/S, not the pipes).

The kit is # 17391 and it comes with muffler #17266

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=WLK%2D17391

573 CFM
260 HP single/ 520 HP dual

It's $263.99

It's certainly better for more HP, albeit louder.

from your link at summit:

This Dynomax Ultra Flo cat-back exhaust system includes dual stainless steel Ultra Flo mufflers, aluminized mandrel-bent exhaust pipes, and all necessary mounting hardware. It's designed to fit in the OEM mounting and hanger locations for a quick and easy installation.

Sold as a kit.

so how do they fit dual mufflers!? theres only room for one cross way one.... unless its all screwy looking like my old 82 was....

and whats the diff between that and the ones i posted from summit?

They're wrong. It only comes with one. Must have been a typo or an oversite.

Here's the link to the .pdf file (you need Adobe Acrobat) that shows the kit(s).

http://www.dynomax.com/documents/pas...ral_motors.pdf

BTW, the clips at Yahoo that say "Dynomax" are the ones that have the sound clips.

If you're using Netscape or AOL, Earthlink, etc., they may not open Windows Media player for you. You may have to save them?

That's weird. It works for me.

Do you see any folders?

Are you logged into Yahoo? That makes all the difference.

They have # 17227 that flows 940 CFM and is rated at 427 HP single/854 HP dual.

It's an Ultra Flow Welded (not S/S) 3" in/ two 2.5" out, split like the stock style crossflow.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=WLK%2D17227

They don't make 3" in/ two 3" out, split. Evidenlty it doesn't help?

I'm sorry MrDude_1. I don't know why you're not seeing the links.

Just to warn you, when I say quiet, I mean quiet! My friend has the catback on his 84 305, and I think it's even quieter than my stock exhaust.

thats ok... matter of fact, thats perfect.

its a 406 with longtubes, so its still going to be louder then his 305... heck i took the catback off my l03 and drove around for a few months that way because it wasnt that loud... i know this engine will be louder then the 305..

heres my idea...longtubes with elec cutouts behind them/in the y pipe... after that i have my catback...

if i want it quiet, like say im trying to talk to my friend in the car, i'll keep them closed..
if i want to hear a lil sound, like when im crusing, i'll just crack em open a bit..

when i want to race or scare the bejebbus out of someone, i'll open up the cutouts and basicly have open headers.

I'm sorry MrDude_1. I don't know why you're not seeing the links.

Dynomax Part # 17536 - 3" in dual 3" out, doesn't give any referrence to CFM but it looks like a 1000+ CFM and probably 450hp+ system.

I have plans for it, it also comes in the 4th Gen 98-02 Catback ... but the front of the I pipe is 2 3/4" WTF???

http://www.dynomax.com/documents/ultrafloweld_specs.pdf

All the mufflers listed in 3" to 4" flow over 2000 CFM and support 1000 hp to 2000 hp
