Cats & cat-back help for a new 91 Z28 owner
Hi, I'm rather new here (this being all of my 3rd post and all) and I'm struggling with a confusing exhaust connundrum.
My situation is this - I purchased this 91 Z28 (350 TPI) to be my winter/daily driver to replace my dying 87 V6 camaro. This car _had_ dual cats - the previous owner gutted one and replaced one with straight pipe. There are also holes in the cat-back portion of the system to boot. What I would like is a nice quiet(er) ride without the cat-less smell - I'm not ever overly concerned with power at this time.
I have been scouring this forum for three days with the time I have and have read through many posts and gone through Summit Racing and SLPOnline and Hooker's site, and Dynomax's site etc and have a better picture of what I'm thinking, but am only about 80% sure of myself. I'm planning on doing this with the aid of a friend to save some money.
I was thinking I should replace the cat section of the system with the Catco 4153 ( http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=CTO%2D4153 - as seen in a post here) which will take care of that section and then either the Dynomax 17484 ( http://www.dynomax.com/documents/pas...ral_motors.pdf ) or the SLP system (even then I'm not sure if it would be the 31006 or 31007!). If anyone could offer some advice on what I'm thinking, I would be able to sleep again! If you need more questions answered or pictures to be able to help, I'll get them answered/posted asap
please? for my sleep??

The Catco system seems safe enough.
The Dynomax I-pipe is pretty small. Can't believe they actually do that on a dual-cat system. I'd look elsewhere. I know you said you aren't particularly interested in performance right now, but I don't think you'd want to decrease it, either.
A Flowmaster system http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=FLO%2D17228 or http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=FLO%2D17150 may not meet your "quiet" requirement, but they wouldn't be terribly loud.

Thanks for the suggestion - I looked at the 17150 on flowmaster's site and it looks like it connects up to the cats individually instead of to the Y (or F) pipe that the cats come together at..
As for the Dynomax being "small" - isn't stock 2.5"?

Stock is 2-3/4". Most all aftermarket cat-backs are a full 3" (OD).

Thanks for your input - I went ahead and got the Catco system and will probably get the SLP cat-back after the winter.
I don't know why I am surprised at how few people in this forum have an opinion on an exhaust when it doesn't inovlve _removing_ the catalytic converters...
