You'll need a 427, headers, no converters, and true dual exhaust with Flowmasters.
With a 305 it's gonna be difficult and you'll need to make some kind of real power to get somewhere near there.

horsepower sounds like that.... so there is no way to make a 305 sound like its got 500 hp by exhaust..... just my $0.2
sure there is....
how do all the top "exotic" vehicles run so fast yet you can't hear them coming??
you can have a "bad ***" cam and open headers and make a car sound like it's the fastest thing on earth as your running 15 sec down the track.

Now go take your 305 TBI and get spanked by a Honda. Again.

I would say a very large cam with high lift, and a very small LSA... like 106*, along with chamberd or strait pipe.. no muffler or cats, true dual, LT headers, and your gunna need a lot more then a 305 to back up all that noise... but it is possible to run 11's on a sprayed 305.

And great excuses:
1) mashed the gas (unleashing the awesome power of the TBI 305!!!)
2) it was 2am (ya mean 305 TBI's run even slower at 2am?)
3) dew on the ground (Honda didn't seem to have a problem w/ it)
I favor Hondas only when someone else is driving them and willing to throw down cash...

Headers, solid lifter cam (a big SOB too) and very little in the way of exhaust muffling
And YES, it can be done... when I was running my 350 with open exhaust when I gutted the cat, it sounded almost exactly the same. Its just didn't have that mechanical sound you get with solid lifters.

if you have a mechanical (solid) cam v.s. a hydraulic cam of the same size will it make a difference when it comes to sound if they are the same spec?
thanks, john

umm isn't a 355 an oversized 305? but anyways... ditching a guy because he has a 305 is low... as for the sound from movies.. those are edited... but get a big cam, nice headers and a carb... I find that carbed engines have 'rougher' sounds than injection

umm... no
a 355 is a oversized 350 by .030.. maybe you have a little typo there, but a .030 305 is a 312? or something of that nature.
A carbed small block or even a EFI'ed small block wouldnt make a difference in sound really... cam, heads and cubic inches would.

I had a 69 LeMans that I sold when my first son was born. It had a 350, pocket ported 882's, engine was way to small for the cam it had, Weiand X-Celerator intake, dual 3" into Flowmaster single chamber mufflers. That car sounded almost just like the Maro in the movie. My problem was I missmatched the stuff so bad, I needed a 3k stall for it to get out of its own way, but then the powerband died at 5k. Damn did it sound good though. It is possible to come close to mimicing an engines sound, but it is almost impossible to do it exactly. There are are to many variables. CI is one big one that is hard to make up for.

one of my friends told me that he wanted to throw a hundred shot of NAWSSS into his 92 Grand Am quad 4.........I told him that if the inevitable engine explosion didnt kill him i would. of course this was the same kid who i had to explain 4 times that a BOV wont make noise unless you have some kind of forced induction.

speaking of 2 fast 2 furious, if you pause it when the Yenko Camaro is up on the lift and the camera is under it you can see that the headers are not connected to the exaust...just thought you might want to know that since you want to base your exaust off of that car.
