dual straight pipe exhaust

I just got a 91 firebird Formula with everything stock and over 100,000 on it and i'm gonna slow beef it up. I wanna get a good exhaust setup that is pretty loud. I've heard straight pipes all the way with no converter or muffler would be very loud but would you lose more than gain doing that or not? Right now it's 1 pipe into the muffler and 2 pipes out of it. What should gimme the best sounding setup?

do you want good sound or just loud/ any good catback system will be good for a stock engine. straight pipes on a stock engine sound like ***.

a good three inch catback and a high flow cat and you will have the ground work for a fast car. a single three inch pipe can flow quite a bit. if you want your car to be loud. cut the pipe right in front of the muffler. then you will see how obnoxious the sound of strait pipes and a stock motor sound. just loud, no tone. get a good single in/single out three inch system. on my next car, i am going to run hooker 2055 headers to a high flow cat to a flowmaster three inch system with a single in/out muffler. with the way technology is today, you can't beat the new aftermarket exhaust systems. and as much as the cats flow these days, it's silly not to run them. most states, even those without emissions, still give fines if they look under your car and they don't see a cat.

Just wanted to re-emphasize so you won't just run straight pipes. It really does sound like ***, usually.

a 15.5:1 comp 377 with a cam of .623" lift and 300* of duration with straight pipes sounds like it wants to eat you. a 9.5:1 305 with the BABY cam sounds like crap.

its the larger diameter pipes on stock engines that sound like crap, just dont use so big of pipe and it will sound pretty good with stock engine

the other factor is how long the pipe is the more pipe the better you see mustang guys with like 3 inch pipe that stops under the driver seat and a stock motor all the time and they all sound terrible but a full 2 1/2 inch system on a mustang sounds fine the other big thing is the headers a car with headers always sounds better than one with manifolds
