Can LS1 Cat-Backs be moddified to fit on third-gens?

Has anyone done this and if so how hard is it? BTW I have no cat to worry about, and system will be welded to y-pipe.

Sure. The rear ends on both gens are almost the same. It will not be a direct fit, but you can weld and modify it to fit.

Do a search. I'm sure some people here have done it,
Especially the SLP 'loudmouth' exhaust. It will fit to a
thirdgen, but you will have to modify the hangers to
fit in place.

The only thing you need to modify is the inlet to the I-pipe so it fits the cat. The hanger is the same on the passenger side near the muffler inlet. You must make a hanger for the driver's side near the muffler exit. Everything from the front of the driveshaft back is the same. I have a Mufflex off a 99Z28 on my car.

My 4th gen and roomates 4th gen have different hanger locations. He has two per side in different spots on his 02 SS and I have only one per side on my 95Z. I think it depends on the system. Then again he has the factory option center exit exhaust from SLP so they maky come a bit different for that reason.

I had a 4thgen SLP Loudmouth on my 88' Iroc-Z 350 before I sold it, It sounded awsome I thought. I did take the resonator on the loudmouth out though and put a XR1 borla muffler in instead, it gave it a nice deep sound.
