making an exhaust

hey i want to get headers for my v6 that bolt up to the factory y pipe but if that isn't possible i am going to use manifolds. My question is can you put a cat right after the y pipe and then muffler right after that or should there be some space. Also what muffler should i go with i was looking at the 50 series flowmaster but don't know if they are too loud. i mainly want it to sound like a v8 when i rev it and be able to hear myself think when crusing Thanks Eric

The only headers that are available for our v6 cars are custom ones. Unless you are able to score some hedmans like I did. None of the header choices will bolt up to the stock exhaust so you will need to get a custom y pipe. I had one done for like $150. If you get headers and a y pipe then you might as well get a catback to see better gains. The dynomax is generally preferred for the V6'ers and is pretty cheap. Only like 180 or something from summit.

You may still want to dump the exhaust further down the back of the car. Dumping it right where you want will still be loud because of its location in relation to the passengers.
