Freak exhaust
I was in the parts store the other day, and while i was waiting to be helped,i noticed a exhaust catolog on the counter. The book just happened to be opened up to a page that had a system layout for a 82-85 Z-28.I thought this was kind of weird because i've been pricing catbacks all fall and plan on installing a new one in the spring.Anyway, this layout was like nothing i've seen on a third-gen,and i've seen alot of different types over the years. It had the typical y-pipe-single-cat setup, but then after the cat it split into two i-pipes and branched out to two small mufflers mounted perpendicularly in the back.It also said in the book that it was a Canadian model so i wouldn't be surprised if this setup never made it to the States, with the different emissions laws and all.Anybody ever see anything like this on a third-gen?I was kind of intriqued at the thought of something different and wondered what a system like this would sound/work like.I would think it would be a big improvement over a single 2 1/4 thats on my car now.I think the second gen cars had something similar to this, but to my knowledge,i've never seen anything like it on a third-gen.Let me know what you think...

Kinda sounds like a stock-ish replacement for an '82 car. They had dual mufflers like that.

Thanks guys,i would have thought i'd have seen something like this on a car somewhere.I thought a guy could use the duel i-pipe and have them go to a set of same-sized high-flow mini mufflers and have a pretty good flowing system for a mild small block, especially if you had headers and a gutted cat with a 2 1/2 inch y-pipe like i do.I'll probably still go with a Dynomax or Vortex cat-back though,i like to stick to the k.i.s.s. rule whenever i can.
I had this setup from the factory on my '82 Z28. When I finally redid my exhaust the guy I had take it off refused to beleive that it was stock. A flowmaster setup flows much better than my stock setup ever did, but I kept the stock setup regardless.
