Headers, cat-back
Okay, I'm looking to replace my rusting system (all stock) with a simple combination that will deliver appreciable power gains without needing a water-cooled checkbook. I may be doing this work myself (with a little help, too) so I don't want esoteric combinations or something that needs fabrication work. I'll be getting rid of the catalytic convertor in favor of a straight pipe, I'm planning on 3-inch pipes from the y-pipe back to some sort of deep-sounding muffler. It doesn't have to look like a million bucks, (I don't want to draw any sort of visual attention to the car...yet) it merely has to perform well and last for quite awhile. I'm leaning for the Edelbrock TES system, or at least using their headers mated to a Flowmaster cat-back. I'm leaving the AIR tubes on for the time being (or maybe not, any thoughts..?) so that's why I'm leaning with Edelbrock headers.

Hey pvt, dump the air tubes & smog pump
You'll be glad you did later when you need to work on & around your motor. Much more room. Oh one more thing. When you dump the cat make sure you take out that small pipe that snakes from the cat back to the motor. Some people just leave it there & it rattles like heck. So take it out. Just my 2 cents

I would start with a nice cat back of your choice. Do some searches here for what cat back would suit you best. I would also recomenrd hooker 2055's. They are hands down better than the TES system and will support a lot more power. They have the air tubes on if you want to keep them. You can also order them coated from ACS at the top of the page where the sponsers live.

financial advisor here
We were looking through the Summit catalog, and Dynomax caught my eye for two reasons: cheap and seemed easy for do-it-yourself. The cat-back (part WLK-17495) was said to fit OEM design and hook up to stock locations. My concerns are is it cheap for a reason? is it really that easy to install? if it isn't the sound my husband wants, would we be able to fix that with really good headers and/or a better muffler? Saving money on labor would mean headers sooner.
