couple specific questions

I've been reading through a lot of seached posts and I've come up with the idea of replacing my entire exhaust system with a set of Hooker 2055 headers, Magnaflow Cat, and a Hooker 16823 cat-back.

My current setup has dual cats and I'm pretty sure they're both bad and I can't pass emissions. Instead of giving my money to a shop to install 2 cat's (which would be expensive anyways), I think I'll update my stock system with all new parts and do it myself.

Question 1: What is the part number for the Magnaflow Cat (with AIR tube) that will fit the headers and cat-back?

Question 2: When I install these parts, how is the routing for the AIR tubes different when going from dual cats to a single cat?

Thanks for any input.

I think part number 94019 will fit for my system. It's a 12" body and 16" in length. 3" in diameter.

Still wondering what to do with the 2 steel AIR pipes that go to the dual cats when I only need one?

A direct-fit would be better, such as CTO-9118 from Summit.

You'll only need one A.I.R. pipe. That's all I've had (have a couple extras, though), so I'm not completely sure how to tell you to modify what you've got. To connect the A.I.R. pipe to the new cat, you can get a "repair kit" from most any parts store that has some high temp hose and some clamps.

Is Summit the only place to get a Catco? I tried a few parts stores around town and they say they can't get them. Also, I can't seem to find their website.

I found a couple shops where I can get a direct replacement with Walker and Maremont brands. The Walker (P/N 15622) would be about $184 US and the Maremont (P/N 28959) would be about $172 US.

I can get a Magnaflow (P/N 94019) universal cat for about $70 US. Is there that much fabrication needed to make it fit?? What if I got the 16822 cat-back, which I heard is the same except the cat connection?

Getting the Catco 9118 from Summit would end up being around the same price as the Walker or Maremont by the time it gets here. Is it a better converter? They don't seem to have a lot of places wanting to provide their products.

Thanks!

The universal Catco I got for the Camaro and the universal Walker I got for my full size van (both being the reason why I highly recommend against a universal cat) were of identical construction. I suspect there's only one outfit that manufactures them all, and each company has their own name put on them. However, that doesn't necessarily mean there aren't differences between the brands.

Catco, Maremont, & Walker are probably different names on the same thing. Magnaflow & Random Tech may be different, but whether they're better - I haven't seen anyone that's done quantified back-to-back tests.

Unless you have access to exhaust tubing material and bending/flaring/welding equipment, the universal will probably end up costing as much or more than a direct fit by the time you get it all together.

Thanks for the reply five7kid. I'll save myself headache and just get the cheapest direct replacement I can get. I'm sure the other "high flow" brands would be very little improvement as far as noticing.
