Flowmaster 2 chambers are not quite, but their 3 chambers are more quiet. Deep sound out of 2 chamber I have, Series 40.
Use turbo's on 5.0 HO, lot quieter then flow master 2 chambers. Deeper tones why before I did motor changer over, most thought I had a 5.7 in truck that then had a 4.3z motor, now it's a 5.7.

Dynomax bullet mufflers are your best bet for the most flow. Regardless of what flowmaster says about how they increase scavengine(of course they do over stock), they still have backpressure when compared to a bullet muffler. At my shop, the main man in charge, mick, runs in an 8.90 throttle stop class, and he runs dynomax 4" bullets off the mufflers to satifsy the rules for running a muffler. However the only other similar flowing muffler is a collector muffler. Dynomax has mufflers from quiet all the way to loud, don't forget dynomax is also owned and produced by walker, so they are also an option. Flowmasters sound great, and give your car that muscle car sound, but a single in/out muffler will make more power than a cross flow 80's series, if you can dig the non dual tips out of the back.
I ran a single 3" bullet on my 89 formula 350, and it sounded great, and we have 3" bullets off my dads long tube doug thorley headers on his 68 gto, 400 with a crane cam, with 298* int./310* exh. duration at .050, and .500 gross lift, along with an intake and larger carb of course, and 11:1 compression. And when the gto was running, it sounded like a prostock, and cammed away like a son of a bit*ch. You also heard the car about 3/4 a mile away under full throttle.
If you want to be noticed for a loud, great sounding car, get a bullet, if you can deal with the louder exhaust note, and be prepared for it to bark under WOT
If you want a car with a moderate exhaust note, more managable at cruising speeds and people to say,
"that car sounds sweet", get a flowmaster, with the warmer, more mellow sound.

Flowmaster.
I have to say that Dynomax or Edelbrock are good alternatives though.
