Hedman LT's 1 5/8's vs. SLP 1 3/4's w/o AIR

Its very hard for me to choose. I am taking the cats off, so i just don't know which header i am going to be happy with. The hedmans are alot cheaper, but i have heard horror stories about clearance issues. I am not goin to be banging dents in my new headers just to make them fit. Help me decide guys, either way, they are gettin ceramic coated. So what do you think i'd be happier with? Thanx.

You will have to dent for clearance on the hedman lt`s and you will also have to clearance the lower control arm mount on the drivers side but all and all its not too bad.

I didn't have to dent my hedman longtubes when I had them. They fit very good actually. Sounds good. I had dual exhaust and the way it was ran I had zero ground clearance. So I have a single exhaust now.

You know I ended up not having to dent mine either. Guess it just depends on the car. Man I really love the way it sounds over the factory manifolds.

The SLPs will also need to be dented, driver side to clear stearing asembley.

I vote LT brotha.

My hedmans installed easily from underneath. Easiest set of headers I've ever installed...

Hookers were the hardest. My edelbrocks were cake also.

Im thinking about gettings another set of hedman longtubes. I would have to have some kind of y pipe made to do into a single 3'' exhaust tho. I am not going to run dual exhaust again. It was terrible.

The hedman LT's dont hurt ground clearance much if any...its the way I had the exhaust ran after the longtubes that hurt it. Mark Shields has hedman longtubes going into a hooker catback..it sounds real good.

I've read about people having to dent their SLP 1.75" headers, but I didn't have to dent mine. Again, I guess it just depends on the car.

For those of you with either setup, what is your lowest point under the chassis? Do either hang lower than the transmission crossmember? I've been considering the Hedman LT's, but I need as much ground clearance as possible.

Yes that is the right part number.

Crazy the exhaust on mine is routed under the tranny crossmember but not low enough to cause any ground clearance issues but my car is stock height.

If you guys are going to make your own Y-pipe you should go ahead and buy the flowmaster y for 2.5 into 3 and the hedman x-tensiond to drop the exhaust and the have a local shop connect them it will reduced the amount of time you will be in the shop plus if they know what they are doing you have to out just a slight bend on the drivers side only to make everyhting work.

one more question. i have a chance to get a set of the above mentioned headers, ceramic coated inside & out for $260. Does that sound like a good deal? Thanks.

I would put the o2 sensor in the extensions after the collectors on those.

on hedmans site it says you need to Must modify rotary A/C bracket when you have the 68460's. is that true?

Modifying the AC bracket is a piece of cake. If you have a cut-off wheel its a 5 minute job.

Are you running a single or dual system. I will try to get some pics of mine in the next couple of days for reference if you are goin to run a single pipe.

hmm coated hedmans for 258$ thats a good buy. I liked my hedmans...they arent bad headers. Better than my edelbrocks I think. The brocks are just to small. Im thinking about getting hedman LTs again and running a y pipe into my 3'' hooker catback..

I had duals once...i hated it. Not doing that again.

You will need to make your own y-pipe for the lt's but it can be done easily with some s bend extensoins and a flowmaster y and a quick trip to the exhaust shop.

Unless your exhaust shop is ran by monkeys...mine is. I can't find anyplace around here worth a crap. If I can keep decent ground clearance I may try the longtubes again.

One of them is just a straight piece of pipe to other has a couple of gentle bends even monkeys could get it right.

The bends on myine are very gentle and have almost no crush to them but I know my shop could have ordered the mandrel bends if I felt I needed them.

I figure the pass side should be pretty straight right to the flowmaster Y. However the drivers side may hang pretty low. How bad is it? If its not much lower than the hedmans themselves it should be ok. The hedmans tuck in real nice.

hmmm sorta low. Not that bad thought. My 3'' y-pipe from my edelbrocks hangs down some. If you can get a picture laying on the ground looking straight underneath I would be very appreciative. Did you have shorties before the longtubes? Any sound difference if so? I think I could get alittle more low end torque with a set of longtubes again.

So you would recommend some coated hedman 68460s for a 350 tpi?
