Exhaust is one of the more compromised areas of engine design. That's why the first thing you do to make more power is buy a set of headers. Anything is an improvement over the iron manifolds.
Guys who are really dedicated to the science of exhaust dynamics are able to accomplish some really interesting things.
Even the best off the shelf aftermarket headers are compromised because they have to fit on your car and they have to be affordable.

It isn't gimmickry. There was a time when street guys used to think that it was a myth that ported heads produced power...

I bought his info/cassette tape. Lots of info and experience there..... Its almost the exact opposite of what you think should be logical.
like gain .2 from changing the collector from 3" to 2.75" on one of the cars, or gaining .5 sec from switching from 1 7/8" headers to 1 5/8" headers on an 11 sec car...

Alot of guys buy headers, that aren't optimized for there combo, such as primary tubes too big for there motor, and they lose alot of torque down low. Its all about optimizing your combo and not kidding yourself about what you have, 1 5/8" headers are what you want on a tpi, they make torque so why not keep the exhaust gas velocity up high, and gain even more torque.
