2055 Install
I just installed a set of coated 2055's I got from ACS today. Great job on the headers
. They look great and they arrived when I was told they would get here. The install was not bad. I have an 82Z - 350 -- had and old set of LT when I bought it two years ago. The guy that had the car ran the pipes low and I had no clearence. The car did not have a cat. When I called a muffler shop they said they could not work on it unless it had a cat. I live in PA. They said it was a $2,500 fine
. So if that is true what would be best cat that would be cheap and also work well. Also after the cat should I run 3" all the way to the muffler and then reduce it ?? The inlet is 2 1/2 or only run it part way back.

I don't know how to help you but are those old LT's any good? and do you want to sell em? I also have an 82Z with a 350 and im going to just bolt up mufflers right to the colector tubes.

The headers are designed for '86-'90 TPI single-cat applications. So, get a cat for that application (like Summit p/n CTO-9118). Then, for everything after the cat, get a complete system for the above application, intermediate pipe, muffler, tail pipes, and all.
This is the "smart" way to go about it. Trying to adapt any of the existing parts will only hurt you in the long run, both performance and $'s wise.

Thanks five7kid. As far as the LT go -- they are no go. The guy welded the exhaust pipe up to the collector - I had to cut the primaries on one of them to get it out.
