Cutout installation question

Cutout installation question
Those who installed their cutouts, did you somehow slip the pipe over the cutout by opening up the ends of the piping or did you just butt the ends of the piping together and weld?

Transmission: Pro-Built 700r4 w/ 3400 converter
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt w/ 3.42 gears
When I had the old exhaust I had it just butted up and welded in the I-pipe...
