Straight Pipe in place of muffler
I have the 3 inch flowmaster exhaust, with the cat still installed. I want to replace the muffler with straight pipe and was wondering if anyone has done this. It sounds really good now, but I was thinking straight might be a little louder, but I do not want it to sound like trash. I figure as long as I keep the cat and have the exhaust go all the way out the tailpipes, instead of sidepipes, that it will still have good tone. What do you guys think?

It would sound like trash.
Keep some kind of muffler in there for the sake of a good sound.

the long pipe will be your problem. it will mess with the sound and make it trashy.
if it just dumped out of the cats WITH A 305 it wont be bad at all
i got TONS of compliments on the stupid exhaust like that...i drove it that way mostly because i was too lazy to put the catback back on for a lil while... wasnt loud either.. L03s are pretty weak.
but if you have a 4" bore or larger (read 350) then it sounds like ****. donno why, thats just how it is.

I welded in two S-pipes that I bent at work in place of the mufflers on my friend's 89 LX 5.0.... It sounded ok at lower RPM's but then sounded like burnt out glasspacks (trash) at anything over 3000 r's. I welded in a pair of flowmasters within a few weeks with his newly found cash, lol!
P.S. The car will really sound like crap if the cat is hollow, or missing, along with no muffler/s.
