02 / gasket question

Just got the manifolds all unbolted and have a couple q's.

How'd you remove the 02 sensor, and how do you extend the wire?

Did your manifolds have gaskets on them? i cant seem to find a gasket between the manifold and cylender head. Its weird, especially b/c the gaskets hooker gave me are like .25 inch thick.

get a piece of pipe and put in on the opposite end of the wrench. should do the trick. dont spray pb blaster or anything, it will harm the sensor. no gaskets were used from the factory

Any one know the best way to extend that wire though? Do i just cut it and solder a longer piece in the middle of it?

BTW, how likely is it that blaster will harm the o2 sensor, the way i spray that stuff around it's very likely that a good amount of it got on there.

The O2 should just unbolt. I think it is a 1" or 15/16" closed wrench that will work. To extend the wire you have to cut off the connecotr on the harness (not the O2) and just splice on a laonger section and put the connector back on the end.

A while back somebody had a link to O2 sensor wire extensions that had the proper connector on each end. Try a search (use "O2*" in the text search line since "O2" is too short).

15/16 I think, definatly not 1in
Mine came out with almost no effort.
You can buy an o2 sensor socket if your in a shopping mood.

O2 sensor is 15/16". Get the O2 sensor socket, it has a slot for the pigtail to hang loose. It's tight for a wrench to get up for the stock manifolds, and much easier with a ratchet and a long extension.

For extending the wires, check the header companies...from Hedman...

Replacement Oxygen Sensor Wires & Plug
Part # Description

24018 18" single wire oxygen sensor wire. (GM)
24036 36" single wire oxygen sensor wire. (GM)
24050 Oxygen sensor plug for those vehicles where sensor is not required. 18mm.

24050 is the O2 sensor bung.

Other companies should have other parts. You could also piece it together from pigtails found at NAPA.
