AC and Alternator brackets

How necessary are they?

I cant figure out how to modify these brackets to get them to fit with my 2055's. do i even need to put them back on? the accessories seem to be pretty sturdy with out them.

I am very curious also? About to install my 2055s and was wondering if I needed to alter the OE ones or just buy the ones from summit...What do you guys think?

I don't know if you've got the same brackets that I have, but I've always been able to use the stock ones. The only trick was to modify the AC bracket. I guess I should note that all of my cars have used driver's side AC compressor mounting. When you look at the bracket from standing by the driver's side fender, it makes sort of an "A" shape. When you hold it in place, one of the legs of the A hits a header tube. Cut this leg off.

nope, must be different. My AC is on passenger side, and Alternator is on drivers side.

Alot of people opt to modify theirs and then send them to us to coat and polish. Anything custom and polished helps, and $10 per bracket is a nominal fee to have more shine under the hood!!!

If you decide not to use them, send them to me. I need them for my car. I did the serpentine conversion on my 87 and I WANT them on there. I don't think they are necessary (I've been driving around for a while like that now), but I still want them.

I'm also awaiting my 2055's and have my manifolds removed. What you guys are describing about the passenger-side AC bracket doesnt sound like mine. Mine is just a single pipe going from the AC compressor to the 3rd bolt from the front.

Passenger side:

Drivers side:

I'm doubting that I will be able to use the AC bracket on the passenger side. Should I try to find a different style bracket and remove the leg of that one?

I started my car up the other day w/o the brackets on, nothing flew off or broke or anything horrible like that.

After analyzing things a little closer, i dont even see what the AC bracket does. I've taken a few physics courses, and the only force on the compressor is being applied by the belt. When the belt is in motion i dont believe it applies any greater force. Not that this matters anyway since the compressor bracket is only offering support front to back, and the force is being applied left to right. (while looking at the motor head on) Now the altenator bracket, since it is on the same plane as the applied force will actually offer support. but since there is know extra force when the belt is in motion, and they (the accessories) seem to have no trouble staying up with out the brackets, i dont believe the brackets are necessary and have decided to run with out them.

If anyone sees any flaws in my basic physics knowlege please share, im still learning.

After installing my headers I've run my AC compressor & alternator without those back brackets for a couple of years with no problems yet.(knock on wood!)

Use the stock manifold studs with spacers. That's what most people do.

I talked to Hooker directly about the brackets, and this is what they said.

"Those are just vibration braces. you probably will notice a little more engine vibration when the AC is on."

Otherwise, removing them is just fine. It'll eliminate even more clutter under the hood as well.
