Cheap Loudmouth?

Has anyone tried running a dynamax race bullet (below the floor pan at the straightest point), then over the axle to a y then 2 tips? I was wondering how this would sound. Since all a loudmouth is is a 'resonator' and pipes, I was wondering if this setup would flow as well.

Thats interesting, just the other day Iwas wondering what headers with a ypipe with 3 in pipe, feeding into a single inlet/single outlet flowmaster and then a "Y" and dual outs. I think it would probably sound good. In essence you are kinda making what came stock. Any opinions?

I had Bullets on the '57 for a couple of months last season. Not too loud at idle, but I was afraid to drive the thing to the track. At the track, a couple of friends accused me of not having mufflers.

I've heard of using one to replace the cat. But, if you didn't have anything else for a muffler, figure on it being very loud.

(Check the classifieds if you're interested.)

i thought about putting one there too... and then keeping a nice crossflow muffler there also..

should quiet down the car alot..... you know.. muffle the noise... like some form of muffler...

id put a cutout in there before it, just after the headers, but atleast then i have the option of being quiet.

options are good..

I had an 87 IROC with a ZZ3 crate motor (this was 8 years ago, before the ZZ4), and I had 3 inch stainless from the cat, over the rear wheels, to a Y with twin pipes going out the back, and the only thing I had was the glass pack resonated Monza tips. The tips helped take enough of the low and high pitches to make it sound pretty nice. It was loud, but not too bad. I plan on doing the same thing to my current project, an 85 IROC.

That's an idea... Run the pipes over the axle, then a y and 1 pipe to each side with a bullet on each side. Since they are available upwards of 5" inlet/outlet, any size tips could be run also. I don't want it too loud, but I'm not a big fan of Flowmaster either.

I had that identical setup on my 2001 TA, and it sounded MEAN. My dad had the actual SLP loudmouth on his old 99 TA, and you couldn't tell the difference between the two.

Typical SLP markup for the same damn product. I wish my name was worth that much $$$.

BTW, I was just using a $20 3.5" glasspack as well

Does anyone have a sound clip of a setup similar to this? Or maybe just with glasspack?

I second that, Im still swaying towards single glasspack and a split with two tailpipes.

If you check out my website, I have a soundclip of my current setup. It's duals, but its glasspacks. Single will have a similar tone, but it won't be as defined or as loud

I recycled one of the 'bullets' from my firebird to my beater. The exhaust was put on by the previous owner which was a hollow converter and straight pipe. It sounded like complete -ss so I put the muffler in place of the conveter.
It's rather tame sounding (though, a stock lo3 and y-pipe isn't exactly a wild combo for noise either lol...) with a little more hollow tone than having the muffler at the rear (sort of like the exhaust since there is more outlet pipe).
It's only temp. untill I can find the time to make a new exhaust and clean up the underside a little... (sorry, no sound clip)..
