emissions test results

My dad took my car down and had it tail pipe tested yesterday, interesting results:

Standard 15 mph 25 mph
NOx: 829/751 308 289
HC: 108 253 172
CO: .6% .82% .88%

This with no emissions equipment connected, a gutted cat, and a 160 thermostat. My dad welded in a cat from a '95Z we had in the shop and he's going to put a 195 thermostat in and take it back Monday to get tested again. We're pretty confident it will pass this time.

I'm just curious why my NOx emissions are so low. What causes them and how are they that low with zero emissions equipment? All of the hardware is there, but none of it is hooked up, we just put it in for the visual test.

Put 5 or 6 bottles of dry gas in it and retard the timing with the higher temp thermostat, it will reduce the hc's.

Car just passed emissions with flying colors.

NOx standard: 751 ppm
NOx emissions: 135 ppm

Hydrocarbon standard: 108
Hydrocarbon emissions: 33

CO standard: .6%
CO emissions: .02%

This with no air pump, no EGR. Only a cat from a '95Z with about 75K miles on it, and the temperature right at 220*
