ANOTHER Hedman install
hey guys,
when i was looking into which headers to buy i did alot of searches and didn't find any that explain really what the problems were and of the specific headman system i was lookin at well i order the 68470 headers short and the y pipe that goes with it. and that is where the story begins.
i had to remove my oil pan at the same time because of clearence issues so this project was made slightly more complicated right from the start. well i read posts where people said it was hard ot impossible to remove the oil pan with the engine in the car, well on my aaplication (84 Z28 5.0HO<AUTO) it was a breeze all we did was hoist the engine up using a jegs carb lift plate and it practicly fell out, this was a moroso kicked out sump by the way all we did was pull the distributor and the carb off and pull the plugs and that was that.
now putting new pan was even easier, especially with the trickflow one piece gasket.
the hedman install was a little more comicated. headers were tight but went in ok. but the first time i put the y-pipe up the collectors i was like there is no way this is gonna fit but after fighting with it and with the help of my air ratchet they eventauly went on. no clearence issues either a little closer to the oil pan than i would like but oh well that is what header wrap is for
well that is it hope this helps

How close to the pan was it, my buddy did this install and it was soo close to the pan that a hole started to wear throgh from vibration. When I did my install I just put the headers on and had a custom y-pipe made. Only cost $125 and there are absolutly no clearence issues.
