V8 y pipe problem after motor swap
I swapped in a v8 in place of my v6. Now no matter how tight i tighten the pass side exhuast manifold bolts (i dont have headders yet) though the y pipe i still have a small gap left which makes a major exhuast leak! The drivers side exhaust manifold is kinda angled to seal with the y pipe. The pass side is flat and smooth..
Does it need a donut?
Help please! Im done with the swap and this is my last problem.

how big of a gap is it, like an inch or 2? if so you need to get the heat riser thats suposed to be there and then bolt everything tight.

Its not that big of a gap, like 1/2 an inch between the y pipe and the exhaust manifold. I dont know what you mean by the heat riser .Everything is on there that came on it besides the air tubing that i removed and plugged.
Thanks Shifty, ill go get one tomorrow and throw it in.

There is a approx 1" metal spacer that needs to go inbetween the manifold and y-pipe. You could prolly find one at a junkyard or from someone getting headers.

the engine is a 90 350, it was a tpi motor, now its carbed. The y pipe is from autozone brand new . There computer had the same part number for a 85 v8(my car year) and a 90 v8 (motor year)
Its really not too big of a gap. Just big enough to make a huge exhaust leak.

If the y-pipe is meant for a 350 car then you def need the 1" spacer. It doesn't do anything like a heat riser would, it just fills the space. I had the same thing on mine. No gasket needed.

Yup. Call it a donut or a spacer, but the passenger side gets one, driver's side doesn't. It's probably about 1 1/2", but you've got your Y-pipe tighten way up on that side now without that donut in there. If you had the donut, it would've stopped tightening way before it is where it is now.
One side of the donut is flat to match up to the flat bottom of the passenger side manifold, and the other side of the donut is "balled" like the bottom of the driver side manifold to fit into the Y-pipe.
If you could wait long enough to get one shipped to you, Tom at www.houseofcamaro.com has them. But like 87350IROC said, you oughta be able to find one pretty easily at a junkyard.
