80's or American Thunder?
My buddy has a high flow cat and 80's, and they're loud and sound nice, but I was wondering if anyone has heard both in real life and has an opinion on it?
I've heard them in sound clips but it's impossible to tell their real sound.
Any opinions?

Yea Id get the American Thunder system and gut your cat unless you are being probed. Then get some headers and a Y-pipe later on.

Having a Hi-flow cat and a Flowmaster 80's on the back I can say I'd rather have a hooker aerochamber setup. Or a Magnaflow setup. The flowmaster drones way too much, and when you get headers it will become downright obnoxious.
Now if you don't mind that, then go ahead. Me? I'm getting tired of the droning during highway trips.

Yea I dont know about running headers on a flowmaster system with 80 series. My buddy runs hookers into dual 40's on a 69 Camaro sounds awesome.

I just had my 80 series 3" crossflow taken out and replaced with a Magnaflow 3"/2 1/2" crossflow. The Flowmaster sounded good with the cat but when I finished my cam swap a few weeks ago the sound went up the roof. It just got too damn loud specially at normal acceleration and even louder at hard acceleration. Cruising at highway speeds below 60 was good but go 70 and it just resonates like crazy. The Magnaflow really toned it down under normal and mild acceleration. I have headers too so the their sound and the cam and all make it sound just right with a nice rumble at idle. The only thing I am not crazy about is the unbalanced sound from the pipes. The pass side is louder than the driver side, but other than that I am happier with it.
So if you still have a factory cam and a cat the 80 series will sound good.
That's a low blow and the man's car, IMO.

i have the 80 series, with a gutted cat. it sounds damn good from about a grand to 2500, but after that its not as loud. one of my friends who has the same car as me, 92 rs lo3 has the 80 with a strait pipe at the cat and it sounds way to raspy. im pretty happy w/ the 80, but i want somthing louder.

Gutted cat = bad for performance. Shove a pipe through it so it doesn't act as a expansion chamber.
But yeah, headers and a flowmaster aren't the greatest combo on the planet. There are better exhausts out there that flow more, and are quieter.

true, but the difference of having a strait pipe instead of a gutted cat isn't going to be noticable, i would like to put a strait pipe on, but it makes the sound of the 80 horrible on stock lo3 exhaust. by the end of this summer, i plan on getting headman shorties with headman y, and put a dynomax bullet after the y and have 2.5" pipe fabbed to run the stock location and split after the axle leading to 3" tips...any thoughts....?

What do you guys think about SLP loudmouths compared to Flowmasters in terms of performance and sound?

Loudmouth exhaust is awesome. My friend just put a catback on his car and it sounds amazing. It is really loud, but you can't beat the sound. I heard there are gains of up to 25 horsepower, but i'm not sure. I on the other hand have a flowmaster catback, and I don't really like it. It sounds great taking off, but other than that all it does is drone on and on. It came on the car so I dunno about the performance. I would go with the SLP loudmouth.
