full exhaust and cat question
full exhaust and cat question
hi guys
id like to get a full exhaust on my car. i already have the flowmaster 3 in catback. i think im going to get the hooker 2055s coated from ACS. However, i have no idea what kind of highflow cat to get and how its going to fit. if i read the charts correctly in the stickies at the top of this forum, the end of the y-pipe on the 2055s is 3 inches correct? so i would want a 3 inch inlet and outlet cat? but the first little pipe on the flowmasters is a 2.5 inch to 3 inch from the cat. so i would either need to get a new 3 inch pipe put in there by a shop or get a 3 to 2.5 inch reducer from the y-pipe to the cat and get a 2.5 inch cat. is this correct? and if so, which way would be better? i mean, obviously a 3 inch cat will be better but i dont really want to have to pay a shop to put in a new piece of pipe. would the 2.5 inch really hurt performance any? my car is basically stock. anyone who has put on the 2055s, what have you done about the rest of the system? thanks for any input guys

I would have the reducer cut off and make it a true 3" cat. You could do this prett cheap if done right. You could then use a 3" slip fit cat to slip onto the cat-back and y-pipe. That is what I did when I had to cut off the 2.25" reducer off of my cat-back. I did need a 2.5" reducer however for the crappy flowtech 2.5" y-pipe. Do it right and go 3" all the way.

The 2055's are intended for '86-'90 TPI single cat applications. A direct fit cat for the same application is CTO-9118 from Summit.
Adapt your current cat-back to that, and you'll have a full 3" system. Get a 3" universal cat and you'll waste time and/or money adapting it into your system (voice of experience talking here).
