Anybody here have sidepipes? Opinions needed.
Well, to keep this post from becoming a novel I'll make a long story short: I have a y-pipe on my car now, and a regular 3rd gen exhaust. The problem with that is the location of my subframes interfere with the y-pipe. So the pipe is crushed.. a lot. And the flow restriction is holding the car back badly.
Now, here's my only feasible and cost effictive idea.. I was thinking of just running sidepipes off the headers. Not gaudy. I'm not even doing it for looks or for show. I just don't want my flow restricted and I'm pretty sure that's the easiest and most cost effective route for me at the time.
Now, here are my questions.. If anyone here is familiar with the sidepipe setup, what are common problems and mishaps I should anticipate?
Will a sidepipe setup off an older vette fit? Or better yet do you know where I can get one brand spankin new?
And I think that's it.
Sorry about the longwindedness on my first post, but hey I need to know. And any help will be gladly appreciated.

I had these on my vette and I took them off.
They created ground clearance issues and, if you had shorts on during the summer, would easily burn your leg when you went to get out.
I'm not sure about how well they would work on a Firebird.
Just my 2 cents.
Hope this helps.

I feel kinda iffy about those in the pic, but if it's the easiest way to get it done, I might just have to do it.
I'm trying to find a setup that isn't so bulky on the sides. I'm gonna throw it up on a lift tonight and do some measuring. Maybe I can get something to run on the side, but underneath the car and then just the tips stick out on the side. My car is such a pain. *sigh*

I'm going to have basically the same system custom-made for me sometime this summer so I can use my shorty headers too. Right now its just got stock manifolds.
BTW - a CB Turbo is a muffler, not a glasspack.

Would this work?:

Seems good for the people who aren't too swell at fabricating (read: lazy) and a relatively easy fix.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet,
but, what size cam are you running?
Reason I'm asking is, your exhaust sounds exactly like mine, only
I have no clue what type, size, model my cam is.DUECE
