Upset with hooker purchase.

I have a 1992 Z-28 with a 305 auto. I replaced my stock muffler with a $80 hooker aero chamber muffler and its much quieter than my car was with the factory muffler! I only bought the muffler because I want my car to have a deeper throughty sound to it and now its even quieter than it was stock! I am very dissapointed with my purchase and would have rather payed 1/3 the price for a super turbo muffler or something that sounds better. I was thinking about getting hooker super competition headers with cut out before cat, but now I'm giving it a second thought. Why is my car so quiet, and what type of muffler will make it louder. Will a cat-back fix this problem?

the hooker aerochamber is a very good flowing muffler much, better then the crapmaster(i know i have one but i was ignorent at the time)

your stock muffler was probably blown out or something

the hooker will sound awsome with headers and no cats and loud but still have good tone

loud does not equel hp all the time

That muffler takes time to "break in." Just wait and it will get better. Also, as stated above, adding hedders will dramatically add to the sound factor. Even with flowtech hedders, 3" cat and the hooker cat-back my car is not quiet by any means. This is mated to a large hunk of iron refered to as the LO3 as well.

Mine was pretty quiet and tame sounding when I first got it on (headers and no cat), after a bit of driving it picked up quite a different tone, especially at higher RPMs.

Yes the muffler has a great flow but after I get my headers with the cutout I will not even be sending any air through it at times. Hopefully the car will still sound a little meaner with the cutout closed b/c I know for sure its gonna sound nasty with it open

I'm not suprised with just the muffler. Friend of mine has an 84 camaro with a 305 and he completely removed his muffler, but kept all the piping and stock converter and it was hardly noticable at all. Now when I removed everything after the converter that was another story. I'de get a full catback regardless.
