Smog pump question

Ok. Before someone posts the search icon, I was just wondering what was the easiest way of getting the pipes out of the manifolds. How did you manage to get them out easily? Well, easiest. Also. Are the plugs for the holes 1/4 or 3/8?

Thanks

PB blaster applied numerous times prior to removal. 1/4" NPT brass plugs should work. I know you didn't want to hear this but a search would have yielded you this answer.

I did the pb blaster thing a lot but i just cant fit my damn hands in there. I also did a search and found 1/4" and also 3/8" plugs, so i was just verifying it.

I think you can use either size. Neither is a precise fit if I recall correctly.

Also, since I have removed the pump my car idles about 150rpm lower than it did when i am stopped at like a light with the brakes on. This happened to anyone else and do i just need to turn the idle up a bit?

There were absolutely no changes to how the engine performed when i removed the air pump and piping. However, the mechanic performance improved greatly when accessing spark plugs and other components around the engine bay.

Might be that you got rid of a vacuum leak or need a tune-up....

Yea you should pass provided there is no visual in your area. There isn't in dayton. I don't have to get exhacked but I removed the smog from my buddies vortec 305 TBI and he passed with a cat if that gives you an idea. Is long as your motor is up to proper temp when testing you should be fine.

Well for this area I know you have to have a numbered car to get emission exepmt tags. That means you need an SS or WS6 or firehawk and a few others. Basics cars can't get that. You can get special provisions though that allow your car to be consdiered a collector before its 25 year leagal exemption. There are strict mileage rules though concerning that. I would only get rid of your AIR if you are going weith non AIR hedders. It is kinda pointless otherwise.

Im going to go with non air headers. I just called the special license place im goin to stop and get a app for the collector tags. I have to show 5,000 worth of receipts and send pictures. I prob dont drive it no more then 2000 miles a yr.
