?'s about header/exhaust install
i'm in the process of removing my stock exhaust right now and haven't even decided what i'm going to do with the rest of my "project" yet. i have a '91 Z28 5.7 TPI with dual cats and have SLP 1.75's SS headers and flowmaster american thunder catback standing by. also, the car has AIR and A/C. i've been reading up on the other posts about recommendations, etc., but some of the ?'s i have are:
1) what is the real benefit of coating the headers and the cost?
2) i need to replace both cats, so a recommendation?
3) what other pipes will i need to complete the install?
i'm new but not blind to doing the exhaust, but with the set-up i have standing by, i think i need the y-pipe from the cats to the outlet cuz i think the collector pipes came with the headers... (i say i think cuz i bought them years ago, believe it or not). also, i recall an "installation kit" for the SLP's, so maybe that should be it, other than the obvious gaskets and bolts?
i just got the stock cat-back cut off my car and haven't removed anything else yet, because this all started as a trouble-shooting effort from suspecting a clogged cat, which proved to be true.
as for the rest of the "project" i mentioned, i have a rear main oil leak and valve seals leaking, too, BUT - other than that, car is running great. so... my thoughts were to pulling the engine and fixing it all out of the car and doing some under-carriage clean-up, too. not looking for any big performance changes, other than to do some gasket-match porting and maybe bump up the cam a little. tranny is still good to go, rebuilt about 30k ago.
thanks for looking, would like to hear your recommendations. i have til the end of the year to get it all done, so time is not a huge factor...

The main benefit of coating SS headers is reduced heat transfer from the exhaust gases to the engine compartment. Secondary benefit is they will look nicer longer. Cost is ~$150-$200.
The best bet is to get the installation kit and direct fit cats. That is assuming you bought headers for dual cats. Anything else will bring installation/fabrication headaches.
