complete hooker exhaust questions

hey everyone, ive been lurking around and reading all the tech articles and simple tricks to do to my 89 formula, but the time has come to upgrade the exhaust system that came with the car.

Since i have the money now, i want the exhaust done while i can afford it, so this would mean buying smog headers and a smog cat back system. Since i am pretty sold on the 2055's im wondering about the cat; would it be worth it to get a brand new cat and put it on there, or not bother and save the money for the gas this monster eats?

Ive read and heard incredibly good things about the hooker 2055's from many of the people on the board, but theres a couple questions i have on compatibility. Will the 2055's bolt right up to my stock cat, or am i goona have to fab something up?

Also, i havent been able to find too many details on hookers cat back system for the 3rd gen f-bodies other than the fact that they sell one. Does anyone here have anything good to say about it? Also, has anyone here had problems bolting this thing up to the stock cat without any fabbing?

right now, this car is completely stock with all OE in place.

I have the hooker super comp cat back system, it was easy to install, my only complaint is how low the first bend of the primary pipes hangs down it's the lowest point of my 87 trans, I also just purchased hooker supper comp 2055's from Thundercat900 on here and a 3inch high flow cat from summit, they have not come yet, but I will tell you this, getting the stock exhaust manifold off is a B****!!!

I have the 2055s, a 3in carsound highflow cat, and the hooker super comp cat back. Can't go wrong with that set up. But I cut the flange off the catback so I could use a universal cat.

from the flow tests i've seen, the best flowing cats are FLP and carsound. for the price i dont think you can beat the carsound.

i just recently installed the hooker 2055's and the hooker catback. thank *** it doesn't sound like the flowbasterd. i was so tired and annoyed of that damn sound. it sounds so much cleaner.

i did away with the cat and emissions when i did mine. so i cannot help you there. carsound(magnaflow) are great flowing cat's, aswell as FLP. i'll second that the carsound prices are superb and cannot be beat. look on ebay for them.

Another Hooker question:
I know long tubes are better but I think I'm gonna go the shorty route, mainly for budget reasons. The Hooker 2460's say that they have A.I.R fittings. Does that mean that the stock AIR tubes are used or will I have to buy new ones? Thanks!!

The AIR tubes should be welded onto the header and then you might have some rubber tubing issues because the AIR tubes' position has changed a little.
