Header Installation

Has anyone installed their headers themselves? My '90 TA GTA still has the original exhaust manifold on it and am plannin on putti headers on it this week. They're shorty headers if it makes any difference for the answer. Thanks

Might wanna take some liquid wrench or similar penetrant and soak the bolts for a while to lessen the chance of one breaking. Also, watch out for the fan switch. I broke mine when I was removing the heat shielding. Other than that, it's a straight forward removal/install.

make sure the headers you bought will work with your factory Y pipe or you will have to buy an aftermarket one to match them .....found out the hard way on my 84 with the headers we bought had to have a different Y pipe than the factory one

Pretty much all headers will require a different Y pipe. This is actually a good thing though, as you do not want to reuse the factory crap!

90tagta,

I have the same car as you. Do you still have dual cats? Which headers did you buy? And please let us know how it turns out.

I'm trying to decide on a complete system from headers to tailpipe, but I'm having a hard time deciding if I should keep the dual cats (more $ but looks stock and pass emissions easier) or go for a single 3" all the way back, probably hooker 2055's for headers.
