So I have a set of hooker 2460s and a Y pipe but I need the AIR

Can I get the AIR tubes off an old set of manifolds and just drill/weld them on?

I would have just bought the 2055's but a mechanic told me I could do whatever I want to my car and he would pass me so I bought these. $250 used with the pipe, jet hot coated. Then he decided that he wasn't going to put me through emissions and these just went to the back of my basement. The idea just ocured to me that I might be able to use them yet.

I dont see why not. Should work fine. If the tester is a stickler for part numbers though, he may still give you a hard time.

The 2460's are available special order with A.I.R. pipes as p/n 02460.

But, if you're handy with a MIG, you could get the stock pipes welded on.

If you're paying someone to do it, you'd probably be better off in the end with 2055's.

Since the headers are already coated, you may just want to put them up on ebay and get a proper set.

What does the coating cost though?
If I sell them without the Y pipe I would probably get about $150 for them, then a new set is what about $180, then however much the coating is. I'm thinking I have the headers, I have a MIG, maybie I shold give it a shot. Although i'll look into the ones that you mentioned. Thanks.

Another thing you could try, if Hooker tubes are thick enough, is just to drill and tap the tubes and put a threaded end on the AIR lines, much like the stock setup.

Kind of a long shot though.

They aren't thick enough to thread directly in the primary tube. You could weld threaded bungs on, though.

I typed in "520-02460" in the part # field of www.jegs.com . The result was this message: 'Part number, "520-02460", is a special order item. Please call 1-800-345-4545 to order this part.'

I keep forgetting Summit has changed their p/n's. It's HOK-02460HKR. $299.39. "Should ship by: Today."

Now, HOK-2055HKR comes up at $369.95 (Jegs 520-2055 is $369.99). "Should ship by: Today." Why in the world would you "save" $70 and sacrifice that great y-pipe?

I wouldn't sacrifice that nice pipe for $70, I was thinking that the 02460's would only be $20 or so more than their 2460 counterparts. It doesn't hurt to explore your options.

True.

Most times I've seen it proposed or totalled, the 2460's come out as much or more than the 2055's by the time you get them installed. Only exceptions are people that get some sort of sweetheart deal on fabricating a y-pipe - pretty rare.

I still think your best option is to get what you can from the coated 2460's & y-pipe on ebay, and get a set of 2055's.

Ball joint flange sucks.

2460 headers are thicker which means better heat control and durability, not much.

I made my own y-pipe for much less than the difference between the 2460 and 2055.

Just my reasons, I could be wrong.

Thicker walls with the same OD (and yes, the primary tube dimension quoted is always OD unless otherwise stated) means reduced flow area. Properly support the system behind the headers, and 18 gage will last a long time.

Ball flange works fine. In the case of the 2055's, open it up after a fit check to center the opening where the downpipes mate. No problems with sealing here.

Care to post a pic of your finished product? If you we able to fabricate your own for less than the difference (were you saying the basic 2460's, or the ones with A.I.R. fittings?), you are one of the exceptions of which I spoke.

True, but I am inclined to think that .16 square inches might have less affect than a significant bottle neck such as the ball joint.

But I am no expert on all the thermal dynamics and physics of the end gasses of our engines, so... that is why I said this is my opinion, not my arguement. I know better than to argue about that which I do not know a lot about.

I do not have a digital camera or scanner at the moment, but I am looking into to buying one shortly. I am talking about the non A.I.R. version. ACS charges 75$ to supply and weld A.I.R., though.

I believe I only used 4-5 mandrel bent 90s, so at 10 bucks a crack, thats 50, I sure as heck didn't use 20$ in Super-ARC wire.

Are you looking to sell your 2460's?
