From my experience, the quieter, the better.

I like my flow master at idle and up to about 1500 rpm's after that its raspy as hell. At times i would like to go back to stock.

A ford v-6 is going to sound way different then a 3.1...the firing order on Ford motors are different. That is why a v-8 mustang sounds different then a v-8 f-body...Mustangs always have a distinct sound...again its the firing order.

I had a 2.8 for a while and now the 3.4...both sound great with a Flowmaster, though the cam helps!

Even before the cam alot of people would mistake the car for v-8, because of the Flowmaster. Well until it reved up that is...

Now I did have a high flow cat. I had 2.25 in exhaust and a 2.5 inch cat... Though I have come to find out that the 2.25 exhaust with the crappy dented bends is way restrictive on the car thanks to a cut out and dyno.
