I would get something with 1 3/4" primaries. I use the Hooker 2210's on my fastburns and they cover the raised exhaust port ok but not great.

My 1-3/4" SLPs do a poor job matching up to my FastBurn heads.

Before I installed the SLPs on my L98, I bolted them to the FastBurns (that had the valves out) as they sat on my workbench.

Looking from the chamber side (remember no valves were in the heads) through the exhaust ports, you could see places where the SLP tubes protruded anywhere from 1/8" to almost 1/4" into the port in at least a couple places per tube.

I considered grinding the headers to match but decided it would not work properly.

I have looked on the Hedman web site where there is listed a d-port (actually described as raised exhaust port) thirdgen header in 1-3/4" and I would like to know if anyone on this site has used these (#65165) or maybe the 1-7/8" (65170) version.

YOu will regret shorties. And Im not sure on this, but I would think you would need nothing shorter than mids on heads like that!

hey jms i was just wondering if you tryed to hog out hose slp's yet? couldn't you weld on top of them to build them up to hog them out bigger? don't the edlebrock headers have a d-port flange im just trying to find a different way to go other then lt's i heard someone say they used hookers 1 5\8 and worked ok

I considered this route but feel the needed welding work at the top of the header tube would still not be enough.

Additionally, the thick flange would probably get too narrow toward the top and may lead to issues with gasket seal.

There is possible problems at the bottom of the tube as well.

The FastBurn heads have the flat machined surface finish below the exhaust port opening and it would be very close to being exposed for a leak. Welding could work here at the bottom of the tube.

I've carefully port matched my parts on the induction side (including numerous test-fittings). I strongly believe the mis-match on the exhaust side may prove to cost more power than I gained on the intake side (and then some).

Could the welding work be done? Sure.

How would it look? Not sure.

Remember, my headers are already coated and I would not favor welding on them, then sending them back to be re-coated.

To me, the looks under the hood are as important to me as the external appearance of my GTA.

Would the welding give the performance I would have with the proper d-port headers? I really don't think so.

If I don't butcher (for sake of a better description) my SLPs, I always have the option of selling them and applying that money toward a "proper" set of d-port headers.

As far as the Edelbrocks, I had a set before the SLPs. The ports on mine were not d-port. More like crappily welded rectangle port.

I spent a couple of hours cleaning up the welds in the tubes before I sent them off to be coated.

Incidently, my SLPs only picked up only .05 second at the track over the Edelbrocks on the mostly stock 350 TPI in my GTA (from 14.07 to 14.02).

Just my 2¢.

OK, I just sold a set of SLP 1 3/4" headers because they didn't match up to my trickflow exhaust ports very well. I started porting them to match, but it was just too much. I borrowed a corvette header and it matched up well. So I sold the SLPs and got some 2055s, but the header inlets are the same size. My heads have d-ports and they're bigger than the aluminum L98 heads. On top, in this pic, is the SLPs and the bottom is a 1 3/4" 'vette header of unknown brand..... see how they're a bit wider.

so your 2055s are matching up to the heads about the same as the slp's did then?

Yea, about the same. The primary entries on both measure 1.6" wide. But the exhaust ports on those trickflow heads are pretty fat (wide). I'll post a pic later.
