Loudmouth would probably be the loudest "muffled" exhaust lol.

GMMG is pretty loud too.
My girlfriend has a Gibson exhaust and gutted cat on her 97 30th anniversary Z28 and it is LOUD as HELL. My G** it is loud, sounds like a truck. Really loud thats all I can say.

whats GMMG??? i was thinking abotu the 40 series truck muffler...single in/dual outlet....i dunno abotu the gibson, i want my car to sound like a car, not a big truck comning down the road....i know the flowmaster is a truck muffler, but they are more universal, gibson is just mostly designed for a truck...that 40 series sounds mean as hell..anybody got a good soundclip of it??? like having the car take off and stuff..all the ones i found are just revs...

No, the Gibson is for the Z28. Its not a truck muffler, I am just saying it is as loud as a truck. Designed for it. A crossflow like any aftermarket muffler for our cars. It came on the car.
GMMG Exhaust
Check it out this thing sounds good.

I had the Hooker Aerochamber catback on my 91 RS 305 w/ headers and it was really throaty. I also didn't have pipes after the muffler. It probably slowed me down, but the car was really slow anyways. It sounded like a car that runs at least 12s instead of 16's. The loudest I've heard was an SLP loudmouth on a 02 LS1. It was pretty crazy. I thought it had open headers when it drove by.

HMMMMM

How about my new jimmy rigged set up. Factory exhaust manifold into dual 3inch hi flow cats, into 3inch pipe back to a cherry bomb straight through muffler. Cherry bomb muffler soon to be replaced with a a purple horny 3ich straight through muffler.

I am not into the glasspacks too much. I remember having a thrush pipe for my 88 back in the day and it sounded ok, but not like the way it sounded after I put the Flowmaster.

A buddy of mine has hooker areochamber on his GTA and I like it alot. Its pretty loud and at WOT it sounds very good. His cam makes it somewhat poppy at idle but its one of mine favorite. Cant beat a good ol 40 series slowmaster either I think. I cannnot stand the sound of glasspacks. To many trucks have them and they are way to poppy. Plus they flow something terrible too.........

SLP Loudmouth sounds like compelte ***. That has to be the worst sounding exhaust I ever heard. There was a guy down at the TGO Nationals that had it on his car. Floored it up the street and I almost puked from how bad it sounded. Personally I love the Random Tech. 3" in dual 3" out.

hmmm...

i did like how my 80 Series sounded on my deceased LG4

I'd get rid of my thrush magnums and bolt the 'ol 80 Series up to a 3in catback if i had some spare cash, but insurance is coming...

the meanest exhaust i have heard was my neighbors 83 berli, heddman hedders into 2.5in trul dual dynomax ultra bullet turbo mufflers(something along those lines), running a cam of some 270 duration in a homegrown 350 bolted to a 4 speed muncie w/ a ford 9in packing 4.10's:hail:

puts my 350HO to shame...never ridden in anything like it, even blew the pants off a 35th SS we tore the tar out of test driving

anyways, thats the "Meanest, Most Snarliest Exhaust I've ever heard"...and I'm proud it was a camaro!

The meanest, gnarliest exhaust I've ever heard are the Hooker sidepipes on my 68 Corvette. They have 30" spiral inserts and is a true 4" exhaust.

Sounds great but hard to live with!

Forget GMMG because of it's cost. And I don't like how it uses two mufflers but necks into one intermediate pipe. Instead, I had my rear section built using mandrel bends and a pair of Stainless Works polished chambered mufflers (mine are custom length) similar to GMMGs but mine slip fits into a pair of over-the-axle pipes. With the money I saved (compared to GMMG), I had fabbed the rest of my true duals. Oh, and it is awfully mean sounding. You'd never believe the sound is the result of only 305 cubic inches.

BTW, I had mine built before I even knew of GMMG.....

i dont know, to me there is a difference between loud and sounded good loud.. personally i like hearing screaming loud (ie. open headers) at the track or car shows, but around the street i would rather hear a deep toned loud exhaust.. personally my car has the loudest exhaust(that sounds deep) that i know of, only other car ive heard that was louder and sounded badass was a 4th gen firehawk that ran mid 13's, but i dont know anything about the car.

A guy down the street used to have an 85-90 TA when I was really young, with big huge tailpipes and a muffler that looked like a flowmaster (I was too young to tell) and every time it passed, I swore that one day I would have a car like that...

Used to be mine, then I put on new cats and the car is much quieter, my muffler is a cherry-bomb or whatever they are called, came on the car when I bought it.

Just having a hole somewhere along my pipes ups the volume to the point it's a bit too much. I learned about glass packs from my mechanic buddy at work, Jeremy. He put 'em on his truck and then we had to hear about the various cop-stops that ensued hehe

I can't argue with the sound of a 3rd gen Firehawk.

Man I hope mine sounds good when its finally finished this week. It was all stock when I started. Ive sunk alot of $$$ in it.

Heres my set-up:

Smog pump gutted, A.I.R. gone, cat gone.

Hooker headers, Hedman Y-pipe and Hooker cat-back with the Aerochamber muffler and tips.

I think I may be in for a nice suprise.

I watched a blown 68 'maro drive by me once.. shook the ground as it rolled by. Then when he mashed a little the rear end got a little sideways, the blower started whining and his exhaust just growled the meanest I've ever heard.

I want.

Sounds like my Firebird with its 465 motor. Even with 275/50R-15 Nitto drag radials, I can't hook this car. Hit the gas cruising down the street and the tires light up bad.

What a feeling!

That car has the American Thunder Flowmaster exhaust system, and it sounds really good. But with the Pontiac motor, it almost sounds like a WWII fighter plane, or a Funny car muffled some. Strange engine sound, but cool.

on a hobbiest built street /drag car?

455+ pontiac motor, alum heads, solid roller, ect...... open headers.

the first time he started it, i HAD to cover my ears and move away from the car... and i wasnt being a wuss about it.
my friend Ja had his military hearing test the next day, and his ears were ringing from it still. he failed the test... (retook it later and did excelent, lol)
you cant work on the car without ear plugs... and its a very violent sounding loud motor.

what makes the exhaust soud mean, has nothing to do with the exhaust. its all in the motor.

personally, i do NOT think loud = good..... i leave that assumpsion to the newbies and idiots.
for a stock motor, the best factory style exhaust ive ever heard is the GMMG setup on a LS1 camaro... very clean crisp deep sound... reminds me of older muscle car sounds, without sounding like its trying to copy them... very nice.. very pricy too.

Best exhausts I've ever heard (and I've heard alot) have been Flowmasters on Chevy musclecars, usually built up good with dual exhaust. Impossible to beat for rumble and seriousness.

Ewwe, i've heard that exhaust, its on a LS1 here running 12's. It sounds like ***. You need to hear a GMMG on a LT1.

I've also never been impressed with the sound of M*stangs or LS1's. Both sound lousy to me, but GM really needs to do something with the LS engines.

it sounded like a conventional SBC... didnt sound like a LS1 anymore...

it wasnt JUST a catback.. he had their stainless steel headers, Y pipe, ect.... well over a thousand in JUST the exhaust.... fuggin crazy.

but it sounded sooo sweet.. esp going down the strip.

sounds to be similar to what I had (b4 I sold it!) ... had a carbed 383 '86 with edelbrock headers no cat (not required for that year in the UK) 3 1/2" straight through to a 6" (or there abouts - certainly MUCH smaller than a standard) rear box with 3" tailpipes... made me REAL popular with my neighbours if I had an early a.m. start!

Just got my car back today (Hooker Headers and cat-back, no cat, smog or AIR). It is not as loud as I thought it was going to be, but thats a good thing. At idle its really low and mellow. When I get on it though, it screams pretty good.
Yee-Haw, Im Bo Duke!
