Jeeze! A small block with headers is a tight fit, how the heck did you get a big block with headers in there!?

Any pics???

you can't fit convential headers in there i don't think...the big block thirdgen owners are usually forced to make custom ones...i've seen some pretty crazy ideas...pipes going everywhere, twisting around everthing...

custom headers are on mine, but hooker makes some smaller tube headers that fit also.

My 68 firebird has 3 inch 40 series flow masters with supercomp headers. The car shakes the ground and sets off car alarms in my appartment complex.

that baddest car i ever heard was a late 60's Yenko 427 camaro with i believe was straight headers and nearly 13 to 1 compression.

i think they could have measured the earthshaking on that car. Truly a ground shaking experience and by far the meanest most agressive car i ever heard!!

but for mufflered cars, i would say true duals with dynomax race bullets on a built LS1. completely amazing
check some of these out.............

BUT heres my favorites

427 C5-R in a SS vert fully built and 18 inch bullets

Ohh man, I love the sound of the Mustang and LS1 motors, I want that out of my car. It has a nice tone to it and its not loud.

The Mustang uses a dual exhaust, whereas the F-bodies have been single exhaust since the 2nd gen went out. I had a single 3 inch exhaust on my IROC before I decided to go with duals. I wasn't happy with the sound of the single, to me, it sounded flat.

When I went with duals, the sound was instantly better. It was more of a stereo effect with a richer tone. I used SuperTurbo mufflers which are quieter during cruising but get really aggressive during acceleration. And I love how they sound!!!
I love Flowmasters, but I didn't want that much of a drone during cruising, because I like to listen to my high end stereo too.

I definitely agree! I heard a 2002 Dick Harrell Edition Camaro at a musclecar show and I was amazed! That car sounded better than any other car I have ever heard in my life. I guess that's what you get for the $125,000 sticker price. Although it's expensive I think the gmmg looks and sounds the best.

Loudest and nastiest I've heard was on a 67 Corvette Pro Stock car with a 5XX cubic inch engine and a 671 or 871 blower (wasn't close enough to see).

Personal opinions:

I hate Flowmaster's sound with a fiery passion that consumes my soul!!! Doesn't even matter the engine it's backing.

I think the best sounding Muffler on a Gen 1 SBC is Dynomax.

Mustang 4.6L sounds great even from the factory.

LS1's sound like crap in general. I've heard a few with Dynomax and Corsa and they were better, but still not as good as a Gen 1 SBC.

Longtubes with true duals with bullet mufflers dumped. Thats about as loud as u get other than straight pipe or open headers. All the 4th gen around here seem to be running that setup and it is obnoxiusly loud.

I watch that video religiously, exactly what I want my car to sound like. When the motor reaches the higher rpm's(3500-4000?) It just screams and sounds great.

steve383 - zz3 350 bottom end, trickflow 64cc cnc chambered 23* heads, comp cams xr288 (custom ground with some small changes for me) hooker long tubes, holley 4150hp 750 w/ proform 800 main body, victor jr intake... that pretty much sums the motor up - about as "out of the spare parts box" as it gets - made 460/440 on the engine dyno with the hooker headers and that carb.... not too bad... cam just had some timing event changes made, couple of degree changes on the exhaust side and smal lift change, put in at 2* adv.

Mine. Hooker LT's 3" y-pipe into single 4", then splits @ the rear axle back into dual 3" with 2 Spintech Pro street muffs @ the rear bumper. There's a link on my home page to burnout video.

I like the way mine sounds, stock mainfolds into a test pipe, flowmaster 40 delta series crossflow in the back. Really deep and resonant at low rpms then gets a bark in the upper rpms. Also I like the small occasional pops on the way back down the rpm scale right around 3000-2500. I got the car with this setup on it, and liked it from the start.

I thought about hooker 2055's, but I dont want the car to get too loud. If the noise gets too obscene, I could be evicted.

Nice video and all but I wouldn't call that the loudest third gen exhaust...Long tube headers....no cat...to a borla cat back with no restricter plate is pretty lud...maybe not the loudest..but IMO the best sounding.

Other than straight pipes the meanest exhaust I have ever heard was a 400 something cubic inch BBC in a 70's truck with Hooker longtubes and the resonator from the loudmouth. Sounds wicked but sure as hell would not like to use that truck as a DD.

I agree with dude, the engine is what makes the exhaust sound good. A friend of mine has a street driven s10- 383, 12:1 compression, 1050 cfm carb, 1 7/8" headers, big solid roller cam, ported Brodix track 1 heads with dual 3.5" into an X pipe with two 3.5" borla XR1 race mufflers.

It sounds awesome, because it pulls RPM quickly and he is shifting at 7500+ rpm, it almost sounds like a large displacement sport bike.

The engine alone is louder than 93 decibels though! He received a ticket for noise pollution, we necked his exhaust down to 2", bought two turbo mufflers and took two rv mufflers on the end from a local muffler shop. Still failed to make it under 93 decibels. The exhaust was super quiet, but the noise from the last on the camshaft and a few other things were still loud.
