shorties

Hi everyone, I was interested in putting some shorty headers on my 88 firebird, TBI, 305. I was wondering a few things 1. can shorties be easily installed (i.e. bolt onto the exhaust where the manifolds usually do) 2. What are some good ones that I should get and where can I get them for cheap? and finally 3. is it worth the money to get ceramic coated or just the regular painted ones?

You can get shorties for them. Inch and 5/8 would be good but if you want cheap then you will most likely have a hard time installing them. Cheap means poor quality. Buy good ones and you will have less trouble IMO. Ceramic coated is nice but not cheap. Add 125 dollars to the cost.

Getting anything that is listed specifically for your car (LO3) is throwing good money away. Get an entire exhaust system for the '86-'90 TPI single cat application.

Do you have any specific suggestions on the headers I should get? brand etc.? Or anything I should know about installing them?

You can't have looked over threads on this forum too thoroughly not to know my "favorite" - Hooker 2055.

Or about issues installing them.

shorties

I put new hedman shorties on my 305 with the hedman crossover, ran 2 1/2 to the back with a flowmaster 80 series and custom bent tail pipes with new 1994 black square tips. sounds real good and there is no problems with header clearance with the starter all tho I wrapped the starter in heat shield material. My headers arent ceramic coated, I stripped them to bare metal and heat primered them and used a flat high heat black, so far theres been next to no peeling or burning of the paint. The headers were about 110.00, cross over about 110, flowmaster was 90.00 main exhaust pipe was about 130.00 and the custom bent exhaust tips were free, work for work type of thing.
