Another BBC Header Thread...

Ok, this one will be a little different. I have a BBC in my Camaro. This car is strictly race. I have the Hooker Super Comp swap headers and I THOUGHT they fit great, until I put my transmission in today.

My problem is, I have raised exhaust ports on my heads (.600" above stock to be exact) so the headers are now pulled up and pushed out from where they should be. This in turn creates HUGE problems. The headers now hit at just about every point possible under the car. The collectors even hit the floor boards when you try and jack the motor and trans to where they are supposed to be.

I did a search on this site to try and find SOMEONE that may have tried this type of thing before with these type of heads. I didn't find anything though.

So I guess my question is, is there any way to get these headers to work or is my only option to have custom headers made?

Thanks.

What a joke eh?

I have .750 raised ports..yea it sucks, I mean they suck. I ended up shortening the driver side rear control arm pearch, so it does not stick out so much.

Modded the "frame rail" (sub frame) that comes down on an 45* angle under the drivers side footwell area, basically I notched out and boxed it so that the collector could pass under..some flattening of the collector was neccesary also.

Passenger side was more of a 90* "subframe rail" a little flattening/massaging was needed there also, the collector had to be heated and tweaked toward the inboard as it was all over the pinch rail and aiming toward the outside of the car.

As for the collector flanges cut them off as they are not clocked right to gain max clearence between the flange and floorbaord..in fact they are clocked to give the least between the two. use 3 inch slip band clamps, you can pick them up at any HD truck supply parts store.

The passenger side slip (cyl # 2) pipe was all over the rail that rides next to the engine under the hood..it was flattened as well but only to create some clearence so it did not rub when the engine moves around

I personally thought they sent me the wrong headers when I opened them, it`a a cruel joke IMO. after spending 18-20 hours to get them to fit I really wondered if it was worth it.....

I have one phrase for you "tubular k member" take a look at my link in my signature, pix`s show what amount of space that tub rame will do for you.

Good luck your going to need it
