I have just installed a flowmaster 80 crossflow muffler on my car and wonderd if it makes a big diffrence if its a 3 or 2.5 inch inlet muffler, and the one i got is a 2.5 and is not very loud or anything but it dose have a nice sounding tone to it what can i do to make my little 2.5 sound louder? this is what i have right now

open air filter
stock 5.0L 305
stock exhaust manifold
crapy stock y-pipe
and the cat is still on

i was hopeing if i put headers better y-pipe and get rid of the cat that it would make a big diffrence if i did all that.

and oh, i was going to make it 3 inch tubeing all the way to the flowmaster and put a 3 to 2.5 reduser.

my buddy has a zz4 crate motor in his fierbird with 355 hp and i have a 91 rs with the 305 . my buddy had the 40 serries with headers and i have the 80 with stock exhaust, his 355hp and my 200hp my car was louder with the 80 series! do u have a single cat ? ide say if you have the money get some headers and y pipe that might do the trick othere wise ditch the 80 and find something els.

pointless to get a 3 inch exhaust only to reduce it to 2.5 at the very end. Why not get a 3 inch exhaust all the way through-out, and just get a new muffler when you want to do actual exhaust mods?

As for what will make your car louder... the more HP you make, the louder your car is. This is simply because when you make more horsepower, that means you're burning more fuel/air, which gives out more exhaust per cylinder.

If you got new Headers (Hookers, SLP, or MAC), then a 3" high flow catalytic converter, and 3" cat-back system (flowmaster, hooker, SLP, MAC, dynomax, etc, etc...) then you'd be getting rid of the biggest bottleneck on your car and gain plenty of "sound"

I just replaced all mine. Edelbrock ceramic coated headers, catco high-flow cat, and flowmaster cat back. Got it from summit racing. Free shipping right now to. It has a nice deep tone at idle, not really loud. Sounds mean at WOT. I'm very happy.
