new exhaust tips

my knowledge on cars is pretty limited so please excuse me if this is stupid... but how exactly do i go about putting on new exhaust tips? do i have to measure my current stock exhaust and then get tips with identical measurements? or do i have to get a size larger so it slides over? thanks for any help in advance

Order them like ¼ or ½ bigger and then weld them on.Cutting of the pipe may be necassary to clear the ground effects and ensure proper fit.

Alot of exhaust shops have them and can weld them on for you at a minimal charge.

You need to measure the outside diameter (OD) of your current tail pipes and then select a tip accordingly. Exhaust systems are advertised by their OD and exhaust tips are advertised by their ID (inside diameter). So if you have 1 3/4" tips than you need a 1 3/4" tip. You will then have to measure the length of the tip and cut that amount off the stock tail pipe so that when you slide it on they come to a location that is pleasing to you. A few tack welds will keep them in place.
