Where the collectors connect to the pipe there isn't room. I have posted about 5 times on this subject and I am getting tired of starring at it

Please help

Are you talking about the 3 bolts where the collectors bolt to the y-pipe near the trans on both sides?

they are shorties and i can't get a wrench down to get the bolts off

The headers also block the number 2 spark plug on both sides

Custom job was horrible

I'll try to explain the best I can.

Okay, where the headers end (down toward the tranny) and bolt to the exhaust piping, it has 4 bolts in a diamond type pattern.

The problem is I can't fit a wrench down there, a socket won't fit and my sanity is going

I have a hole in these headers and I can't think of how to get them out other than pay someone to torch them

Whatever you guys think I will try, but I can't think of anything.

I can try to get pics, but I don't know if this computer has the program I need.

Thank you,

Meatwad

If they are longtubes (sounds like it, by description) try unbolting them from the heads, and see how far the system drops down. Might be enough to get at thye bolts.

Is this a one time removal of the headers, to be replaced with something else?

Do you have it completely unbolted from the head, but you can't get to the bolts on the y-pipe?

If so, sawzall the header where it meets the y-pipe, and then you can drop the y-pipe and unbolt the leftover piece later.

Yes they are unbolted from the head, and they didn't move but a fraction of an inch. I believe they are long tubes, and someones poor custom job. I have to get new ones for sure

Such a pain in the butt, I hope they didn't put the headers then drop the engine in, that could make this unbelievably straining on my sanity

I'm not really sure which they are, I looked at some pics and shorties is what they are shaped like, but the pipe seems longer than the shorties? I don't understand it either, but like I said someone made these custom and did a crappy job

Is there a y-pipe between the headers that goes under the oil pan?

If you aren't going to keep the headers/y-pipe, I second the motion to sawzall them off. I removed my stock manifolds last week to put some headers on, and I didn't want to deal with the collector bolts, so I hacksawed through one side of the Y-pipe, and the manifold slid right out. Using a hacksaw was such a pain in the *** that I ended up using a socket/ratchet to break the bolts on the other side (snap the nuts off). Then pulled that side out. Sawzall/torch the Y-pipe near the collectors = easiest.
