How much longer will my Stock exhaust last??
Ok for the past few months my parents have said that they would buy me the hooker catback for my birthday (which is today, btw). So today at dinner they say they're not going to get it for my birthday, but will pay for it when my car NEEDS exhaust. Right now i have the stock system, completely original. The cars been garaged all its life until we got it in april. It didnt have any rust on it when we bought it. ITs not gonna be driven in the winter, but it will sit outside under a cover. Basically i'm wondering how long it will hold up...

how many miles are on it?
I have almost 109k miles on my car and the stock exhaust is rattling terribly in the back when its cold. I plan on replacing the whole system with hooker catbacks as well
But other than the rattle (which is caused by a weak tether) my stock exhaust is holding up fine. It really depends on the condition of the car, if its not rusting it should be good for a few more years.

the car has 47,000 miles on it...
And dan the man, as much as i would like to expediate the process of my exhaust system taking a crap, i dont want to do it at the expense of the rest of the bottom of the car. If i was to do something like that it would have to be something that wouldnt harm or touch the other parts of the undercarriage.

go cut one of the rubber hangers holding the muffler on.. instant spark show, and easily fixable by the exhaust man
your stock exhaust will last a long time if it's not driven through snow/water. Probably many years.
IMO I'd just buy the exhaust myself. It's not very much, and you can find it cheap places.

Yea im gonna probably end up buying it myself over the winter. While changing my oil with my dad today (every 2000 miles baby!) i looked under the car and there it is about 97% rust free under there. So im just gonna end up buying the exhaust sometime through the winter i guess and put it on in the spring...because i definately dont want to wait a few years to put it on.

Can't you just tell your parents it is better then the stock exhaust? Just tell them it will make your car sound way better.

Tell them it will sound better, and it'll increase your MPG - which is a correct statement.
Either that or go bash out a hanger like I said before!

Stock exhaust should come off right after it leaves the dealership.
