3" y pipe in Stock location

Just like the title says, has anyone ever put a Mandrel bent 3" y pipe that goes in the stock location, my largest concern is that 3" pipe will not fit between the K-member and the oil pan. I did do a search on this and it yeilded nothing so sorry if this has been said before. Thanks for any comments or suggestions. Barry

I dont think it fits, and I don't see why you'd need it. 2.5 is more than enough for 1/2 of the motor. It all goes into a single 3" pipe anyway.

I'm going to try and pull off a true dual 2.5" setup thru the factory routing like Willie did. http://members.optushome.com.au/iroc...st/exhaust.htm

You dont see why you need it? More exhaust out=More hp, and what i have sounds like crap, dont want duals because they look like crap.

Is your 350 pretty modded? Because if it is anywhere close to stock within 50-100hp I am with jimp2001 and say you don't need it. escpecially if it is (2) 2.5's dumping into a 3" I don't think it matters at all.

My motor is a mild 350 with a 150 shot of gas, The 3" y-pipe will end where the CAT was and there will be a Bullet muffler, and that is it

you looking for something like this then. This is a 2-1/2 inch Y-pipe. You can see how much it hangs below the K member. A 3.0 inch would be real close to the ground and will probably hit and get damaged. This is more than enough for your setup. And its EXTREMELY LOUD! Like open headers.

What does that even mean. Do a half assed job on any install and it looks like crap. Unless you're talking about the tips which would be similar to what our cars have stock.

Not meaning to insult anyone, but i think MOST but not all duals on a camaro or firebire usually hang down, not really looking like crap, just limiting ground clearance, just really worded that wrong, sorry

And I already have a 2 1/2" Y pipe on my car with a Bullet, i just want a 3", 2 1/2" tucks underneath the car great and just like the factory, here is a pic of my car, it just kind of give you an idea, wish i had a better pic though

LOL!! Nice. So is your suspension pretty modded also? Do you have a webpage for your car?

Just wanting to check out what you have done to it.

Weber

Save yourself alot of grief. set your car up for drag racing like I should have done! Car does handle good tho in autocross form.
better ,nicer group of people in drag racing and no hassles with rule changes year to year trying to keep up with the mports.SCCA loves imports and just hates F-bodies.

Yeah right on. I am not wanting to setup my car for dedicated racing. I am going to drive it on the street as well, but would like to dibble dabble in drag and autocross.

Yes. Pick one or the other. You can't successfully be fast setup for both. Go to QualComm stadium and check out their dragstrip and autocross events. ask lots of questions and decide what you want to do.

Are you here in San Diego?

I have been thinking of going out to qualcomm. I see them down there all the time.

2-1/2" downpipes will be quite adequate.

Bigger isn't always better. It may actually hurt performance. Most likely not, but 3" simply isn't necessary in your case, and won't fit between the crossmember and oil pan without hanging down in any case.

Can we assume you have headers? If not, then this whole discussion is nothing more than McDonalds parking lot BS.

Had to ask. Many, many times on this Board, we've assumed post after post that someone had some particular upgrade because of the other things they were asking about, only to find out that wasn't the case.

I'm running 2.25" right now into 3" cat and hooker cat back. Moderate noise, infact the blower is louder.

This winter I will upgrade to a 2.50" setup for sure. 3" is just too big. It would be ideal of course, because you want to get the gasses out of the header and expanding as quick as possible. But still, as others have suggested, it can be considered overkill..

BTW my car is an 11 second car in street trim (tires), and 10 second capable with slicks. (but I'm sure the drivetrain would explode).
