couple of questions

okay i know u guys get questions for headers and y pipe all the time but here goes....if the stock y pipe is 2.25 inch why do they make mostly 2.5 inch ones it seems like thats not much of an improvement??? and im thinking im goin w/ the headman long tubes cause my car is not lowered and i shouldnt have too much of a problem.. am i right in thinking that lt will help more low end and shorties more up top cause where i only have a 305 i need to not loose anything down low at all. also will i need new brakets of some sort for alternator and ac w/ these headers or no. if i got a 3 inch y custom would it not clear the crossmember and cause even worse ground clearance that the lts? what should i do just go w/ the 2.5 inch pipe or go w/ a 3 inch. also i will be putting some home ported 081 heads and a mild cam in w/ about the same lift and duration as the lt1 cam or a lil bit more, and an intake since i only have the 305 either should be sufficient or no?? thanks guys and sorry if this is a redundant questions for u but ive read many posts and have found some stuff usefull but not a sure answer for all i have asked.

You may not have enough flow to really make full use of the LTs but they definitely won't hurt (the coming from someone that had a 305 with Long Tubes very recently).

oh and i already have a 3 inch cat back to flowmaster 80 series so any y pipe would have to be a 3 inch out

Re: couple of questions

okay i know u guys get questions for headers and y pipe all the time but here goes....if the stock y pipe is 2.25 inch why do they make mostly 2.5 inch ones it seems like thats not much of an improvement???
Because they're 2.5 inches from each side into a 3 inch collector. 2.5 inches per bank of 4 cylinders is enough exhaust flow to support 450 hp.

and im thinking im goin w/ the headman long tubes cause my car is not lowered and i shouldnt have too much of a problem.. am i right in thinking that lt will help more low end and shorties more up top cause where i only have a 305 i need to not loose anything down low at all.
LTs will improve the entire curve more than shorties will. So in other words, you will not loose anything except a couple more bucks and some ground clearance by going with LTs, but you'll have alot more hp/tq compared to shorties.

also will i need new brakets of some sort for alternator and ac w/ these headers or no.
Check with the manufacturer, but I would highly doubt it.

if i got a 3 inch y custom would it not clear the crossmember and cause even worse ground clearance that the lts? what should i do just go w/ the 2.5 inch pipe or go w/ a 3 inch.
Go with the 2.5 inch Y-pipe into a 3-inch collector, for reasons stated above.

also i will be putting some home ported 081 heads and a mild cam in w/ about the same lift and duration as the lt1 cam or a lil bit more, and an intake since i only have the 305 either should be sufficient or no??
Don't quite understand your question here?

Thats what we're here for, but make sure to as well.

The manufacturer should sell one specifically made for their headers.
