What To Do...

...county started emissions. Prior to them starting this, I did all kinda upgrades to my car, one of which included the exhaust system - which included, new headers w/o air tubes, no air pump and no cat. I went over 5,000 miles this year (whoops), so I'm not going to be able to get exempt from emissions. All this work is probably gonna be around $2,000 for stock-like parts, and not performance parts, which are on it now.

I love my car... but I don't have the $2,000 to fix it...

Cat costs $50. Try one and see if you pass. I passed emissions without AIR. Most people won't know you're missing anything as far as what the car came with stock. That's what happens when you pollute wrecklessly .

buy stock parts used, they're real cheap. Most people will just give them to you. Or try a junkyard. It won't cost anywhere NEAR 2k to do it, if you do some work yourself.

Do they have a visual inspection or only the sniffer? If they only have the sniffer I would spend the $50 on a high flow cat and put it in place. That could cost you another $30+ in labor if you can't do it yourself. None the less, if your motor is fairly stock you should pass with nothing more than that.

yep, what shifty said. Most cars, in good tune, should be able to pass without AIR/EGR. Just make sure to get her nice and warmed up, and you might want to dump some "Clean Power" in your gas tank before you get her smogged.
