New exhaust for a bullet???
alright guys, I've been searching around for a good catback, as im going to need a new one. I have a 2.5 on there, but i need louder, and better tone. Im getting my headers soon so after that, i think i want to get a new catback. I love the sound of the bullet "muffler" hahaha. am i going to have to get a custom exhaust made?? would i just run the intermediate pipe over the axle. then use a split into 2 2.5's or so??? does anyone make an exhaust such like this, beside the loudmouth, which is wayyyyyyy to over priced.

No. You'll have to have it custom fabbed.
Don't buy the LM, at least you're on the right track there!

hahaha yeah, i was going to a while back, but i herad toooo many bad things and such. and i heard the bullet compared to the LM, and they are much better sounding so i might as well.
so what, the fabrication would be like this
cat-muffler-intermediate pipe, over the back axle and down- splitter into two.

yaeh that will work
i was thinking of a similar setup now
i wanted to create the GMMG style setup with two bullets but now i think i might go with a single chambered design or single bullet in the Intermediate pipe and split into two over the axle

My setup goes like this:
Manifolds->Y-pipe->Cat delete pipe->Bullet in I-pipe->Y-splitter on top of rear axle->Dual outs.

I a bullet on my exhuast.
Headers into a custom y-pipe into the converter, which is hollowed out, the bullet next to the driveshaft, over the axle into a pipe making a upside down T, and splits into duals.
If my camera would work, I would put up a picture.

Cause 2 pipes are better than one.
The looks, the sounds, performance, and maybe other reasons.
Also my camera won't work on batteries any more, left them in there too long.

then why not go into true duals?
from my understanding though is if your exhuast turns into a single to switch it back out to a dual is going to cost you some flow not help you

It's harder, cost more, and most exhuast places won't do it.
I've tried and tried and gave up on duals. Even some 82 and 83 Trans Ams came with a single cat single pipe then two really small mufflers at the back end. No one would do that for me.
I've seen a couple true duals on here.

Two pipes aren't better than one! The best free flowing 3 inch cat back you can get is a single tailed bullet. You're actually prolonging the flow while routing it into two 2.5 inch outlets strictly for cosmetic reasons and will lose power. Ask anybody in the know and they'll tell you, the best flowing systems for our cars are one tail straight through with a bullet preferably or equivalent (cheapest too!!!). Look at all the mufflex systems, they are 3?, 3.5 and 4 inch single tails. You are just making it harder for the exhaust to escape. The ONLY thing that can beat one tail is true duals! Who cares about phony duals out the back! How old are we? Every honda has a big wing and a fart pipe along with 120 ft/lbs of torque, see where I'm going with this!

No, I don't. Some people like the appearance of dual tips. If your goal is to squeeze every single bit of HP out of your car, thats fine. Some people want other things, like good looks and power. Not that a single exit is ugly, but some people perfer two.

If a single exhuast pipe is better then why didn't they do that coming from the factory/stock?
Most came with the single in/dual out, right?

That is how they came, but that doesn't mean that it makes the most power by any means. The factory rarely does stuf to make a ton of power. People just don't care. They would rather have the car look good. That is what dual (fake) tips are for. Read ANY preformance mod book about these cars and you will NEVER find a dual tip exhaust recomended for MAX HP.
Just use your noggin'.... exhaust straight through ------------->
.....or 1/2 pulling a U-turn --------------\

damn, my little arrows don't look good when acctually posted, but you get the idea. (Maybe)

Take a look what these guys have to offer. Might find something to work with.

I kinda like the looks of 2 pipes out the back as well. If I had to go with one it would definately be the hooker. Seems like a good bang for the buck system. But I'm all about power and effeciency therefore I'm going with the 3 inch single tailed bullet. It is also the cheapest cat-back you can get and will out perform ANY other 3 inch system. $240 shipped from summit! And bullets sound great too! I have a 2.5 inch on mine right now and am constantly getting compliments.

look at the CFI intake. it came that way from the factory but it doesn't mean it is better right?
or with many upgrades that are aftermarket or the muffler itself why switch to a aftermarket muffler?
most the time I would say they came with the dual out cause of looks.
ppl see the camaro and want to think power and as far as I know the camaro/firebird has always been dual out for the V8.
it's kinda like heritage and you get used to seeing it. so if it might sacrafise a little power oh well we are keeping with the f-body look is prolly the factories thinking.
also think about it when you put two pipes into one and then try to switch them back to two pipes what are you going to gain from this? at least the taking the one pipe into two again?
Thats right!!! It is COMPLETELY a cosmetic thing not performance, but it does look good! This doesn't mean you can't get good performance out of a fake dual, just not as good. The mac cat back for our cars looks awesome. It has these huge chrome 3.5 inch tips, its definately quite a looker. I must say I'm tempted by that one or the hooker but the cheap price and superior performance both draw me to the parted out dynomax bullet setup. Plus it sounds really mean! I think it would really compliment the SLP headers and high flow cat.
