hooker 2055 setup roblem

i jusdt got my new hooker shorties the 2055s and i was mocking them up to see how theyd fit and i noticed that the collecetor (at least i think its the collector its where the 4 tubes come into 1) doesnt fit all the way into the y pipe. the end of the collector looks like a ball and the y pipe doesnt slip over it and only about 1/2 inch of the ball at the end of the collector goes into the y pipe. is this right because when i put the screws in where the y pipe and collector meet there is about a 1/2 inch gap between the 2 flanges(see picture), shouldnt the 2 flanges be touching and u shouldnt be able to see the bolt in between them? im sure they are the right headers because the y pipe and header both say 2055 on them i just want to know if the headers and y pipe should fit like this or maybe they sent me the wrong y pipe or header?

There should be a gap, tighten each side like one turn at a time so they pressure is even. They dont fit inside each other with the flanges flush.

yeah the flanges are not supposed to touch... its a ball socket.. not a "plate to plate" type. the kind you have seen on other headers are just a flat triangle and both meet.. these are not them

Depending upon how you connect it at the I-pipe and how much you expand to fit over the y-pipe, it's about 21".

I did this today. I used a 24" pipe that was 2 1/4 on one end and 2 1/2 on the other and a adapter pie that was 2" diam and about 3" long. I slid the 2 1/2 side over the Y pipe end. On the exhuast pipe side I slid the 2" tube into the exhaust pipe and into the 24" pipe. I used U bolts to secure all parts and bent the stock hanger a bit to hold it all up. Make sure that you have enough clearence between the exhaust pipe and the drive shaft at the rear of the car, thats the oly spot thats close.

Mine.

I had expanded the I-pipe for a slip fit previously.
