Which Header To buy??
I have been having problems trying to get longtubes for my 91 Z. It has a small block 406 with a TH 400 Tranny, no emissions. I talked with Jegs and told them my situation and they recommended the Dynomax longtubes. When I got the headers after trying to get them on for 4 hours, called Jegs and found out they sent me the wrong headers. The headers were for a older G body. I sent those back.
Called jegs back and spoke with a tech for about 25 minutes on what header will work with my tranny. He recommended the Hooker Comp's amd said they will work with the TH400 and are longtubes. I just got them today and they are shorties.
I called Jegs back and they cant seem to find a long tube header that will clear a Th400 tranny. The only set they have is for over $600.
What long tube header can I go with that will clear the TH400? I like Hooker,Hedman. I am looking to spend about $350 for coated headers.I am losing this battle.
Thanks, Mike

I doubt you can find good headers that are coated for $350, that's a low price to pay on a very price senstive part. Youv'e got that nice car why not top it off with some nice headers? Save the money and you'll be happy you did. Cheap headers are not only cheap in price but quality.

What brand name could I go with that will work with my TH400? I'm not exactly loking to go the cheapest route, but The only header i have seen for my setup starts at $700.

Honestly I dont know much about what you could do with that TH400 in your car, but I'd suggest you buy the nicest headers you can, that aren't coated, and then send them to jet hot. It's up to you, but dont get flowtech or some crap brand of header.

Im looking to buy Hooker or Hedman, I really want Hooker long tubes but cant find them to fit around the TH 400. Anyone know how much or have a fabricator's # in Northern Illinois that will make a set for me?

custom made headers are well over a grand. I have talkedto guys with custom headers, paid over 2 grand. If you are looking for cheap and coated your best bet is to start looking for used ones. I got a set of 2210 hooker LTs for 515 shipped. In great condition and coated. Good luck

I guess I'm a little slow - what makes the 2210 incompatible with a TH400 transmission?

Hooker 2210HKR or 2210-1HKR will not clear clutch mechanism for manual transmissions, but don't have a problem with automatic transmissions, including TH400's.
Seems like the hot ticket for a hot 406.

Atleast I know that I can get a set to fit, since the Techs at Jegs obviously have no clue. Is there a site I can go on to check the Hooker 2210HKR or 2210-1HKR prices?
I appreciate everyones responses.

SLP seems the way to go, thats what I am getting and they garuntee that they have the highest gains over anyone else using that same diameter. If you dont wanna spend the extra 100-200 dollars on coated, just coat them yourself with high temp paint and wrap them, would do they same thing and cost alot less I assume.
Stay away from any cheap headers, you get what you pay for. I.E flowtech my freind bought them, said they were made for the camaro but he had to bang the frameto get them in there, and the coating wore off after a week and they started to rust already. If any headers are under $100 brand new steer clear.

The Hooker website used to have footnotes on each p/n and application that told you stuff like that. Summit copied that info into their application info, which is the resource I was actually quoting. The updated Holley website has dropped the footnotes, no clue if they are still updating and just haven't gotten that information back up yet.
At any rate, the originator wasn't asking about T-56, he was asking about TH400. I looked in the 2210 sticky above and quickly found a picture of 2210's in automatic-equipped vehicle, could easily see it wouldn't be a problem with any of the typical Chevy automatics (Powerglide, TH350, TH400, TH700, etc.), combined that assessment with the Summit application info, and posted.
But, I am a little slow...

SLP only offers coated headers these days. If you want uncoated, you're going to have to find somebody that has some old stock sitting around.
Funny, I haven't seen many SLP headers on race-only 3rd gens. I'd say SLP's statement is a bit over the top, wouldn't you?

I never said that the origional post was about the T-56, I just wanted to shime in that there is more to a product than what summit says. I know we are on the same page here five7kid.... I didn't mean to sound like I know everyting.
Anyways, like he said use that auto, you will be fine.

Then again, your only going 14s so maybe 1 5/8 is fine for you. I'd like to dip into the 10s next season.

I orderd a set of headman longtubes for Northern Auto parts and they sent me the worng ones. They sent me the shortys. Should i send the shorties back and get the longtubes? Is it worth all of the hastle. B/c i called the local speed shop and they said that most people with 82-92 camaros are getting shotries b/c of clearance issues.
