Removing BBC with Hooker Super Comps
I recently purchased an '87 Z28 with a 427 BBC and Hooker SC swap headers. I did not install the motor but I need to pull it to do some detailing and fix a main seal leak. What's the best way to get the motor out with these headers? Is there enough clearance to just unbolt the headers and pull the motor with them laying in the engine bay? Do I need to remove the slip-fit primary on the passenger side? Do I need to remove the trans from the motor first or can I pull the whole assembly from the top?
Thanks. -Neil

I would think you would be ok to pull the motor and trans as one unit. With the headers undone you will usually have enough room to pull the motor and trans.

Unbolt`em from the heads and the collectors but leave them in place, when pulling the engine have them tied back or someone holding them. The passenger header sits right against the sub body on my car so it has to be lifted out a little with the motor, just a few inches at most then it all clears fine. As I remember, the oil filter also needs to be off when the engine comes out. Same for sitting it back in, tie or have someone hold`em in place while it`s lowered back into the bay...putting those hookers in with that mammoth in the bay is a PIA
